I can't do that Panda....the comedy is just too good.

I was worried about that too, Mike, but it turns out I'm really not missing out on anything.

It's like that old joke about a guy who goes to a standup comic's convention, thinking  it's going to be funnier than hell. He walks up to a group of people who are laughing their asses off, thinking he's going to hear some really good jokes, and some guy says - "42." And everybody bursts out laughing. Another guy says, "Oh, yeah? Well, 36!" And everybody roars with laughter.

So the guy says, "whats going on?" And one of the comedians says, "Oh, we know 'em all by heart, so we don't have to tell the whole joke. Just the number, and then everyone knows what joke he's telling!"

It's the same thing with Sanity, Willbe, and Lucky. Each of them only says (at most) 2 or 3 different things, depending on the particular issue. With Sanity, it's always "liberals' fault! Awk! Clinton and Gore did it first! Squawk! Strawman! Personal attack! Destroying capitalism! Awk!" With Willbur, it's either a one-word blurt like "bullshit" or some incredibly convoluted and fantastical explanation of how the free market is the answer to everything and liberals are too stupid to understand it, and with Lucky, it's... well, some amazingly illogical argument followed by dozens of posts saying only "you're a troll you're a troll you're a troll you're a troll."

I put all three of them on ignore a couple of weeks ago just to see how it went, and I couldn't be happier. I still see some of the really wacky shit quoted by other posters, and get a good laugh out of that (like Willbur's lament that people making 300,000 a year are in danger of bankruptcy if they have to pay their share of taxes), but most of it I can just figure out by reading what people are saying in response. Anything every one of them has to say on any issue whatsoever, we've all heard it a thousand times already. There's no need to read it again.

A personal attack a day against me from this Panda guy is what started this whole thing. Then Orion joined in here, told me his master would kick my ass for "arrogance"

http://www.collarchat.com/fb.asp?m=2903309

And he asked all his friends to put me on ignore. Thats when I first realized that they were a little clique and that "Orion The Wolf" was living in a fantasy world. If his master were to assault me his master would end up in the county lockup, wouldn't he.

Anyway, there you go. The three amigos... MusicalMystery, Panda, Orion The Wolf and Orion's master chi, all ganging up on poor little me.

(I don't count Orion's master chi because I'm pretty sure he's imaginary).

After that I had to laugh when certain people felt outraged when I failed to treat Orion The Wolf with the respect worthy of a God or something...

FR after barest of skim thrus (I was looking to see if anyone discussed the numbers . . . )

My favorite thing to do with stories about oil is math. Good ol' kitchen arithmetic:

Iraq's total, conservatively estimated oil reserves: 115 billion barrels

Daily global oil consumption: ~84 million barrels

Annual global oil consumption: ~31 billion barrels

~31 billion divided into 115 billion yields approximately 3 & 3/4 years worth of oil in Iraq.
Yep, you read that right. The numbers are usually so depressing I think that must be why the journalists never crunch 'em, despite how simple the math is . . . . . I also think that's why the daily consumption number is the one that gets bandied about more, because it's not as clear (when thinking 80+ million barrels a day) how that relates to the size of the fields being discussed (old, new, whatever) .. . . . Annual consumption of 30 billion barrels a day is very easy to divide into whatever 'gigantic' new field that's been discovered or old one being argued over .. . . .

For example, that 'giant' potential new field in the deep water off Brazil? Roughly anticipated to be about 30 billion barrels. That's right, one year's worth of oil.

I encourage everyone who's interested in this subject to do the kitchen math for themselves whenever reading about petroleum. It's pretty eye-opening to read an article like the OP posted using this arithmetical insight . . . . .

Okay Sanity, let me ask you straight out....what about WMD ?do you now realise it was a lie? and do you even wonder if your President knew that or was just a victim of analysts seeking to please their boss(Bush)?
And finally do you beleive he lied to the American people knowingly? or again was he also a victim of the lie?

I'll answer from my pov:

No I dont "realize it was a lie", there is absolutely no evidence that it was.
No, I never wonder whether GWB believed the plethora of intelligence, including statements by Saddam himself. Analysts all around the world couldnt give a flying fuck about pleasing Bush.
and finally, you are being redundant.

Actually you should have twigged when the justification constantly shifted between WMD threats and Al-Qaeda links. When no evidence of one could be found the focus shifted to the other; backwards and forwards repeatedly.

When someone said Saddam Hussein’s bathist party would never work with terrorists because they were opposite ends of the political spectrum for that region and despised one another the attention was shifted to how he himself could personally threaten us.

It will be interesting to see if the Iraqis pay any of the costs of the war back to the United States. Personally I don’t see it happening. It doesn’t surprise me that Russians are getting their piece of the action, I suppose they’re doing okay, considering the war didn’t cost them anything in the first place.

Russians Win Big in Iraq Oil Deal Auction - Reuters

Amid fierce competition, a group led by Russian energy giant Lukoil won a deal to develop the West Qurna Phase Two oilfield, which with 12.9 billion barrels of reserves is one of the world's largest untapped "supergiant" fields.

Iraq aims to power out of war into oil big league

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Iraq, emerging from the shadow of war, expects to boost its oil output to rival the level of top producer Saudi Arabia after awarding some of its most attractive oilfields to global oil companies this week.

This is why the United States went to war in Iraq and Afghanistan: Oil. It’s all about companies like Shell and Exxon and Chevron and Halliburton being able to make money.

And this is a surprise to you? Lots of us have been saying this if not from the start then certainly since it came to light that there were no weapons of mass destruction.

How much oil do you figure America has stolen from Afghanistan to date...

And it was mnottertail who pointed out on the first page of the thread that Shell Oil is a Dutch company. So... do you suspect that American soldiers have been sneaking oil out of Iraq in their canteens?

If thats not what you're thinking,  whats your angle exactly. How do you imagine we are stealing it?

Where did I say the US is stealing oil?  I was responding to the sentence I quoted, no more

Brain - this post is a direct contradiction of your OP...

Which is it. Iraq owes the U.S, or the U.S. is stealing their oil. You really should try to pick one, and then stick with it...

Well, if we're buying it (and thereby helping the people of Iraq out of a jam) whats the problem. From the sound of things it appears that its all being sold by a fair bidding process. How is the fact that their oil is being sold via a standard process any kind of proof that the United States waged a "war for oil".

Sanity....once again.....I'm not commenting on anything other than what I quoted, that is that those wars have been about oil.

Afghanistan doesn't have any oil, and the oil in Iraq is being sold to the Russians, the Chinese, the Dutch. So where is any evidence for your claim?
