Thank you for sharing that; it gave me a good laugh. That kind of mail is common from idiot wankers, but that particular suggestion is a new one on me, and I used to get some pretty strange mail when I had an active profile.

Sounds a lot like something from a 'sub' who's really a 'master' who pretends to be something he isn't (or maybe he is) and uses fake profiles to harass dominant women because he thinks we're 'confused' when really he's the one who seems genuinely confused.

The snarky email or the concept? While I have heard that the best Dommes started as subs, I don't hold it to be true in all cases. As to the emails from jerks on this site, yes, it is common that's why they make the block feature, so you don't have repeats from the same jerks.

Yes I agree.. I asked because I did read something a Dom wrote about being in sub training in order to be a better Dom.

Aside from the specifics it is actually common for people to begin on the bottom side of things before they move on to the top side of things. In some groups and clubs it was mandatory.

But common does not mean that everyone does it.

If you want to allow a male to tell you what you must do to be a dominant or anything else... and you wish to do the things he said you must do... then go for it. But anyone telling me what I must do, get's blocked here or in my life. But I get a hearty laugh first!

Gee... what kind of submissive... you clearly don't know well... talks like that? I am sure he would not like the names I come up with. lol

There have been threads started about the topic of a dominant starting at the bottom so they can understand submissive's better. You might want to do a search. Some said that it helped them and many said... they wouldn't do it and saw no real reason for it. There was even a thread about a club that required dominant's to be submissive before they could dominate in the club and most called that bs and said they wouldn't go to that club.

Don't let these guys get away with stuff like this. Do come here or find someone you trust and do searches. Everytime I think I have heard it all... I find I haven't. lol

Ok so aside from poor delivery and the entire lack of context for what was said...

Historically speaking, in the gay male Leather community, when it began and for several decades after, starting from the bottom was mandatory. As SM became more mainstream (expanded to the het community) this practice dropped off. Because the community as it's known today isn't structured the same way as it was, this practice simply cannot be enforced and thus, isn't mandatory.

The poor delivery prolly comes from smart ass who thinks he knows everything cuz he read it on the internet somewhere and likely has little to no real involvement with the "RL" community (or much of anyone else in the world). It's ok...it happens.

Whether you choose to subscribe to this method of "training" is entirely up to you. I do encourage you to take a learning stance though and get out in the world and interact with experienced Dommes on a real level...learn what's worked for them in their relationships and what lessons they can teach you that they learned the hard way...the ONE thing they wish they knew coming into this...and maybe even some play techniques by co-topping as a method.

Just some suggestions...
