It's just a condescending thing. It has nothing to do with pedophile or BDSM. "Now listen to your Aunt Martha" or "Let Uncle Bob tell you how this works" are kind of a southern regionalism in which an adult is metaphorically placing themselves in a position of dispensing advice. The faux-familial title is the verbal marker for "I'm about to patronize the shit out of you, listen respectfully".

LOL, I LOVE how you put that, especially the last line there.  Alas, I even catch myself doing the "uncle" thing every now and again. I'm not sure what's worse though.  That, or the way half my friends are now referring to me as Uncle James. >.<

Yes.  It tells Me that you are not on a good enough communication level with this person to ask him straight out.

I would not ask... i would find it embarrassing to ask, for me and for him too
unless i would not care about the answer, or about him...

he either does it to be friendly in which case he won't understand your question and will probably think you are a bit weird
or he does it to flirt in which case a blunt question like that will put him on the spot and probably put him of... because of your lack of fantasy in that regard

if it squicks you out you can simply ask him not to call himself 'Uncle Peter' because it sounds so strange to you...
... or if you are interested in him and if you feel like a game... go with it and ask Uncle Peter for some more advice

Just reply back next time with, "And what happens if I DOESN'T listen tuh Uncle Peter... does I gets a spankin'???".  His reply should hopefully clear things up.

Yes....and if he shivers...he's one of THEM! ....errr  US!

Is his name actually "Peter"?  Cause if it isn't, that makes me twice as suspicious.

LOL. Yes his name is Peter.

Thanks for all your replies which were very helpful. I really wanted to know if anyone thought there was anything in this at all - as opposed to being a normal turn of phrase and it sounds like a number of you think it's worth asking about.

I'm going to wait and til he does it again and try echoing it back/raising it in a round about way and seeing how he reacts.

A slightly toned down version of the suggestion of Master Slave And what happens if I DOESN'T listen tuh Uncle Peter... does I gets a spankin'???".   I'm just going to say "And what happens if  I don't listen to Uncle Peter" with a wink and see what he says. . .

I'll be curious to know how he'll see the 'wink' since you're talking on the phone. Getting a wink into tone of voice, dunno, could backfire. If you want to know why he calls himself Uncle Peter, the best way to know is to just ask him straight out. What strikes me as peculiar is why you prefer to avoid asking a simple question. IF you're thinking of getting into kinky stuff, it's a good idea to practice straight-forward communication.

I say 'listen to auntie bella' all the time, and I'm a 19-year-old with no interest in ageplay at all!

It's a common turn of phrase. Stop reading too much into it.

If he asks if Mr.Wiggles can can out and play, I'd be leery of that, too.  Likewise for "the twins" or "the boys".

too funny - have you met someone who talks about his tackle like that

Or is it too impossible to say and I am crazy for even asking?

I don't really think it means anything. I have a best friend who I playfully refer to as "Mama" because she is quite good at figuring out when I'm sick and taking care of of me, despite that I'm actually older than her. She refers herself that way too.

I will also refer to myself as "Mama" or "Auntie" when talking care or advising someone else. It really doesn't have anything to do with my BDSM orientations.

Question about telling whether someone you don't know well is potentially into BDSM.

Guy (mid-50s) when he has been talking to me on the phone has more than once refered to himself in the third person as Uncle Peter. As in "Listen to Uncle Peter". I am mid-30s.

He doesn't have any nephews or nieces in real life.

Someone else told me that he had been calling another woman some time ago and talking to her as if she was a young girl - in the context of flirting chat rather than anything overtly sexual.

Do you think this use of "Uncle" suggests he might be into master/schoolgirl type scenarios or other trangressive scenarios (father/daugher)?

Or is it too impossible to say and I am crazy for even asking?

It just seemed a bit of an odd use of language to me - given our relative ages. He's said this "Uncle" thing two or three times.

It's just a guess on my part but....I'm thinking "Uncle Peter" has a bit of a pedophile issue.

Well if that's true, then what did it mean when Judge Hardy referred to his wife as "mother"?

I think the important thing to recognize here is that by posting and asking this, you have made it abundantly clear that you're hoping that's what he means.

Round of applause for the genius in the corner. LOL. Specialist subject - the bleeding obvious as Basil Fawlty would have it!!!

Thank you for this startlingly original insight which really helps to answer my question!!!

No, I do not believe this has any BDSM attached to it, more than not, it is wishful thinking and harmless flirting by an old man
