ORIGINAL: thishereboi Why would you put someone on ignore and then continue to post comments to them? If they are really worth ignoring, then why not really ignore them? Far more often than not, I do. I don't have the man blocked because I have an allergy to him, or because he offends me, or because I'm trying to make any sort of point or take a stand. Blocking him is not the same as pretending he's vanished from the face of the earth, however comforting such a fantasy may be. I just came to the realization that with extremely rare exceptions, nothing he ever says adds anything to a discussion - it's all confrontational, dogmatic nonsense. It's not uncommon to open a thread and find that over half the posts on several consecutive pages are Sanity stirring up shit and arguing with people. So on a whim, I decided to filter that noise out, and i found that most threads are far more rational, far more civil, far more intelligent, and infinitely more enjoyable. That's why I have him blocked. It makes the experience here more worthwhile. But, every now and then, someone quotes him, and the quote becomes part of the discussion. At that point, I may or may not choose to comment on it. I've got the best of both worlds - 95% of his irrational diatribes are invisible to me, but every now and then someone quotes one and I get a good laugh out of it. The flow of the discussions is greatly improved, and the occasional blip is an amusing change of pace instead of a constant disruption.
