Aneirin -> How many submissives.....? (12/20/2009 4:23:35 AM)

I don't usually come into this forum, and am half expecting to be kicked out, but am wondering about the subject of dominance and submission in life itself, aside from the kinky aspect.

I was just wondering, and am going to ask, what positions in real world society is often held by those who identify as submissives in the kinky world.

Are you all servants, maids, carers, shop assistants and such, the occupations where one is paid  to serve others, or are you in a more leading role ?

Now, I don't expect anyone to give actual information about what they do, as I am very aware of how sensitive some people are about that, for understandable reasons, but I do wish to get a general idea as to what the different kinky designations are in the world of life and work.

For example,

Myself, sub, but an occupation of student metalsmith, I respond to customers and college requirements.

Anyone else ?

im a podiatrist. i spend my whole day tending peoples feet. when im doing home visits i spend a huge proportion of the day on the floor [:D]

funnily enough it was while i was at uni that i went to my first bdsm club - invited by a fellow student who was submissive and introduced me to the whole 'thing'. until then id thought i was the only person in the world with strange fantasies about being tied up and spanked and when i saw people kneeling at the feet of their Dominants! - well then i knew.

I've seen this topic come up many times over the years, in various forms. The answers were quite varied and many s types hold leadership positions. The answers were quite varied.

Teacher... They do what I tell them (I teach adults)... But every now and then one of them figures me out... mmm hmmmm... and then oh the fireworks!

I don't think jobs make a difference. To me, whether you're a D type or s type and no matter the job you have, when it all boils down, you are still serving others.

On that note though, I am the Assistant Manager of an Adult store. I answer to the Store Manager and Head Office and of course, customers. Other than that, my job is to oversee the staff, to make sure customers are being helped in a timely and proffessional manner. I have to make sure stock orders that come in are checked, priced and recieved properly. I am in charge of making the schedule and making sure the store is running in tip top shape so the Store Manager can get her stuff done without worry.

So, I guess I am in a position of some authority. :D

For a while there I used to see a lot of s types who had positions of some authoirity by day. Or said they did.

The uber executive bitch coming home to submit might be an urban myth, although one can hope.

I know many submissives who are nurses, or around that profession.

I'm a recruitment consultant. I talk clients into using our company. Beating them into agreement is unfortunately frowned upon.

Indeed, thinking back..some subs I had were nurses. Also some did work with commercials/ads (photoshopping, websites etc).

I'm a college professor and program director at a large public college. I have to be very nurturing of students, but that often involves dishing out "tough love." Being a program director means having to defend my turf and budget to administrators, and if you're submissive about that, your program won't exist for long. I'm actually known as a bit of a bad ass at work, which is a nice contrast to how I am in my personal life.

This flavor of unicorn IS REAL, and my personal favorite. My first sub was a fortune 500 bad ass (3rd in command of company with almost a million employees) and he LOVED cleaning my floors. I always knew he was having a rough professional week when he asked to polish the floors, do laundry the following day, pick up my groceries the next and how often would I be needing a massage? Too bad he also turned out to be married and cheating on a wife with a fatal illness.
I have met I guess more than my share of powerful men by day and whimpering pets in private. Nothing sexier than that first time you grab the nipple ring of a vanilla with suspect tendencies and hear that moan of "oh yes mistress" then get the deer in the headlights fear of what they've just said to send them almost into tears by whispering in their ear "you are a lucky lucky man".

tsatske -> RE: How many submissives.....? (12/20/2009 9:17:23 AM)

What I think is interesting about this question is how people who identify strongly, in one direction or another, in power exchange sexuality, see their own professions.
Many sub types are nurses. and some will see that as reinforceing their submission, others will see the power they neeed to wielf in their jobs. I think the differant ways of seeing the 'same' things is the most interesting part of this question.
I provide home care to elders. I speak in soothing tones and say 'yes, ma'am' all day. I do whatever is asked of me, in exactly the way they want it done, and, if not, I smile and do it again. for this reason, my boss is very happy with me. :)

slaveluci -> RE: How many submissives.....? (12/20/2009 9:21:10 AM)

I work in a library in a management position. I have previously been a rehabilitation counselor and have managed a domestic violence shelter among other social-work-oriented type jobs. Several of my positions have been in management and I've usually held a leadership role. Submitting to Him has nothing to do with what I do for pay...............luci

Lets see, thinking back to the men I've been involved with and with whom I've have had a D/s dynamic.

- One was a lawyer and an economist who owned 3 companies. He was the brains behind the concepts but stayed in the background and let others do the managing.
- One was an ex-Marine and now a small retail business owner.
- One was a massage therapist who had his own business and several employees. He was also ex military.
- One was a human ressources director.
- One was a computer science engineer working in research and development.
- One had 2 Master degrees and was a project manager in his field.

Most of the men I've been involved with have held very high positions or were self-employed.

I'm known as kind of a badass at work, too, but that's intentional.  Where I am (and in a lot of places, I'd imagine) survival is for the fittest, the best defense is a good offense, and if you walk around with your tail between your legs, people will either walk all over you or forget you exist.  Or both.

Missokyst -> RE: How many submissives.....? (12/20/2009 9:39:25 AM)

I have had many occupations, bartenter, belly dancer, artist, clerk, computer tech, ect. I have worked for others, and worked for myself. I have been an employee and answered to one. And been the boss and answered to many. In my opinion the only role to play in doing your regular job is knowing your part and doing it to the best of your ability. And being the boss often means you are more likely you must serve your clients to their specifications.
I identify as submissive.

sweetsub1957 -> RE: How many submissives.....? (12/20/2009 11:15:35 AM)

When I worked, I was a nurse, and I supervised the nursing assistants.  Worked in nursing homes and assisted living facilities.  I was friendly and fair but had firm and high expectations of myself and those who I supervised.

Not a myth.  I am a sales exec who has to make companies pay lots of money, then wants to come home to be .......well, you know. [;)]

when this slave held down "paying" occupations, they were all service oriented---never a leading role.

I'm choosing to read this as volunteerism, red. Now, what do you sell and can you bring samples home?
