Status: offline 		I bought a new whip, and still after one month it has a strong smell of leather. What is the best way to get rid of the smell from new leather whips and straps?

Status: offline 		I would be afraid it would damage the leather, make it very stiff. If I want to remove a scent and cannot wash something I will usually hang it out where it can get a lot of fresh air.

later you use oil or other treatment

Status: offline 		Another thing I just thought of, all of the special leather treatment products I use have some sort of scent. Just oiling it, with a leather conditioning oil, several times might help.

Status: offline 		i'm another in the OMG why? but..then i remembered..different strokes for different folks (pun intended)..lol

The smell does fade, especially if you leave them out in the air..out of direct sunlight, however.

I didn't even know that scented crayons existed!

And, although I also love the smell of leather (whenever I'm in a tack shop, I just stand there and smell the saddles/bridles/etc), baking soda also removes the smell. Put enough baking soda in a pillow case or bag to completely cover the whip, leave it overnight, then clean and condition it the next day with linseed oil/saddle soap/etc.
