As long as we're on the subject, I've found that a plunger and a little elbow grease works middling-to-fair for a clogged drain, if it's a tough clog that the professional drain stuff doesn't want to take out. Going to try the baking-soda-and-vinegar method mentioned in the book, since our drain's starting to slow a little bit. Hmm... wonder if I've still got my old trumpet-cleaner. Flexy length of twisted metal, like a spring, with basically a wire brush on both ends. Don't know how well it would work on clogs, but... oh, no, damn. Got rid of that trumpet years upon years ago. Bah.
