ORIGINAL: LadyEllen How amusing that some ascribe the benign presence of modern Christianity to the very nature of Christianity itself, whilst condemning another religion they know even less about as being inherently evil and wrong. Make no mistake, without the castration it suffered through the renaissance and the enlightenment periods and since, Christianity would be no different today than it was for its first thousand years or so in Europe, a vicious, jealous, covetous and unholy justification for every sort of ill and violence available to it in its progress to total domination. The really amusing part is that it was Islam that maintained and developed the science and learning of the ancient world, that Christianity had suppressed with fire and sword for centuries, and it was from that source that the renaissance and subsequent enlightenment sprang, all the way down to our modern world. Without it, we'd likely be suicide bombing Muslims and fleeing Muslim troops right now and vilified as Muslism are today by some. E You have it backwards. It is not ascribing the current benign presence of Christianity to its roots. Everyone recognizes the atrocities committed in the name of Christ. the point is that it IS different today. Islam (as practiced by the extremists who have at least the implicit support of the moderates) is not, it is the same barbaric moral code it always was. Not so, If you consider to look into the past, to a town called Cordoba of the then Moorish Al Andalus, circa 850 ad, you will see the conquerors, the Moors lived in peace with the conquered of the region, even the conquered people's religion was tolerated, churches were permitted in Islamic held towns, and worship at these churches was permitted, no problems. Now, insulting Islam was a crime punishable by death for both Muslim, and Non Muslim, the law, Sharia law was in use, and everyone knew where they stood. Now something happened, a Christian priest I believe made his intentions clear that he wished to convert to Islam, just like many other non muslims of the region were doing to take advantage of the elevated status Moslems held in the conquered territories. So the authorities gave him lessons on Islamic scripture, but when it came to his conversion, instead of converting, he let rip insults and blasphemies toward the God of the Muslims, Allah. Now, the penalty for such crimes for anyone was death, but the priest was not immediately put to death, the authorities believed he was off his head, so he was given a chance to convert, but he let rip insults and blasphemies again, I believe he even got another chance after that, but in the end, the authorities unhappily had to implement the law. From that point on the Cordoba Martyrs set off the anti Muslim feeling, and all of it caused by breaking the law, and insulting another person's religion, something we know not to do now. The bottom line, the law, is the law, Sharia law has the serious positive that penaties for wrong doing is set down, so everyone is forewarned, totally unlike western law, where a penalty can be anything, from big to small, depending on the minds of men, and so forth with politics, power, wealth, influence, all that stuff that comes into play in the west. Sharia is there for everyone, but penalties are not thrown about willy nilly, the muslims take into account madness, and the possibility of madness, they don't want to implement the so called atrocities, it is just those who uphold the law are subject to it, they have to implement it, because it is the law, Sharia law.
