Arpig -> RE: Health Care Bill passes the Senate! (12/24/2009 8:50:21 PM)

It made our costs go down in Canada, and in France, and the UK, and Japan....so why wouldn't it for the US?

Canada doesn't have a federally run healthcare system; it's ran by provinces within the country, the largest of which is smaller than California.  Canada has also been much more historically wiser about non-deficit spending (with some rough patches), which is the real reason why Canada has managed through the economic crisis better than the US has (and which is why I did quite well this last year in moving a lot of my investments into Canadian investments hehe, but I digress.)

Point being though, if the US does adopt a Canadian style health care system, doing it on the federal level could be very bad...I think it'd be overwhelmed.

Sanity -> RE: Health Care Bill passes the Senate! (12/25/2009 6:20:28 AM)

California alone has more people than all of Canada. Canadians coming on here preaching about their system have absolutely no clue what kind of a massive nightmarish bureaucracy they're trying to push onto us.

Canada doesn't have a federally run healthcare system; it's ran by provinces within the country, the largest of which is smaller than California.  WRONG with a capital WRONG.Only four provinces are smaller than california(PEI, Newfoundland and Labrador, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia).1 territory is slightly bigger but the other 6 provinces and two territories are much larger than california, or even texas, oh my gawd bigger even than Alaska!!!!!!!!! I  sure you can find out their respective sizes by checking out either wikipedia or the CIAworld fact book

We also have more regulations on banking practises, we didnt go to war with iraq and we have a government who dont seem to be quite as corrupt as yours altho there are some real assholes and douche bags. The sheer land mass of some of the provinces causes issues with healthcare because of the population spread

Point being though, if the US does adopt a Canadian style health care system, doing it on the federal level could be very bad...I think it'd be overwhelmed.
Overwhelmed, I think running for the hills with its tail between its legs is a more apt description, having watched the bullshit surrounding the passing of this bill...its a wonder you have anything set up at all. Surely tho if the states were doing their job, there wouldnt need to  be a federal plan.
Please at least make an effort to get facts correct.

Sanity, Every civilised country in the whole world has better healthcare coverage for the population society than the US, is this something your proud of ???. If it is, then you really have some fucked up priorities, and you tell us we preach, HAH

If it means that soon every citizen can go and see a doc and be treated and not worry about bills for the months to come, its a bloody bonus, one that you may be thankful for one day.

Merry Christmas

tazzygirl -> RE: Health Care Bill passes the Senate! (12/25/2009 7:54:35 AM)

Land mass size.. he is wrong. Population size.. canada has less than california. Which actually makes it sadder that a country the size of canada can do for its citizens what the size of a state cannot do for its own population.

Canada: Population

33,598,000 (March 28, 2009)
33,390,141 (July 2007)
31,612,897 (2006)

California: Population

36,553,215 (2008)
3,426,861 (1920)
2,377,549 (1910)
379,994 (1860)

My fauilt for assuming that it'd be obvious which one I meant as only one would be relevant as far as health care being overwhelmed, hehe.

tazzygirl -> RE: Health Care Bill passes the Senate! (12/25/2009 8:05:57 AM)

Im not so sure. I would imagine it would be just as hard to take care of a people that spread out as well.

Lucylastic -> RE: Health Care Bill passes the Senate! (12/25/2009 8:06:43 AM)

NO not obvious regarding population... this is what you said...Canada doesn't have a federally run healthcare system; it's ran by provinces within the country, the largest of which is smaller than California.
no mention of population.
just provinces....
If you dont own it, thats fine ..
Im more than well aware that we have a tenth (approx) of the population of the US. DUH

Tazzy one of the biggest complaints is for rural medicine and doctors covering hundred of miles with few communities

Better coverage, sure, if you're prepared to wait for it. If you're prepared for rationing. To be denied care based on your age or other factors.

But our actual health care is probably better than anyones, if for no other reason than because we don't have to wait  for it and we don't need a permission slip from some government bureaucrat before we get whatever treatment we need.

Your priority is free medicine but you always get what you pay for Lucy, and I swear your system has yet to bottom out. Finish your socialist experiment before you insist we jump on that bus with you, eh?

Psst...this is the part that made it obvious which I meant.  It's well known that Canada is by far larger than the US land-wise.

Note, that someone who responded to me before your post already showed he knew what I meant.

In what way do we need a permission slip from a gov't bureaucrat before getting the treatment we need? All we need to see a specialist is a referral from a doctor or a prescription again from a doctor.

Since canada's population is so much smaller, and ours is bigger, with more people paying into it.. and lets be honest... no Dr is going to walk away and turn in his license over this issue, no matter how much they threaten... its pretty plausible that the lines will be smaller (since you insist we dont wait here.. which we do.. for diagnostic tests, non emergency surgeries, ect).

Nope, you just need a permission slip from your insurance company. And, yeah, you still have to wait on approval from them, as well as booking any surgery or procedure that is not an emergency.

What we got isnt working anymore. Waiting any longer may mean we miss that bus, end up with a bankrupt health care system, as so many in the health care system have pointed out is the future of health care.

The longest I have had to wait for anything is three weeks. Ive never been refused anything, and I have never been turned away cos I dont have insurance or make enough money.

But our actual health care is probably better than anyones, if for no other reason than because we don't have to wait  for it and we don't need a permission slip from some government bureaucrat before we get whatever treatment we need.
If I want to go to the doctor, the only person I talk to is the receptionist to book the appointment, to go to a specialist, I only need a referral letter from my doctor, which is given to me at the end of the appointment.
I have never had to get a note from the nasty govmnt. And I can get healthcare wether I can afford it or not

Your priority is free medicine but you always get what you pay for Lucy, and I swear your system has yet to bottom out. Finish your socialist experiment before you insist we jump on that bus with you, eh?
Wrong I have never wanted free healthcare, you keep accusing me of it, but no, I dont want free healthcare, I pay for it with my taxes as I paid for it with my taxes in the UK.
Your system is the ones thats broken for 30 million people.... I can still get to my doc, my hospital without worrying about how im going to afford to live.
It just goes to prove Sanity, that you have not listened to ONE word, I or other canadians/brits on here have said.
Funny thing is that the UK and Canada have been running a "socialist experiment" for many many many years now, how long will be long enough to be called successful?
Of course, your views dont really count cos Im happy with what I have thankyou very much, and.... I know that if I should lose my job, I can still get decent healthcare and not payout my savings and so can every citizen of canada.
Sheesh you just dont wanna see it do ya.
