Ok, continuing our series of movie threads...

This has to be one that isn't necessarily good, isn't necessarily bad, but one that left you the most dazed, confused, bewildered, or just going "what the hell did I just watch?"

For me:

The runners-up:

Mulholland Drive (although I actually think I understand it, it's weird enough to make my list)
2001: A Space Odyssey (although only if you haven't read the book)
the last 2 Matrix movies (I won't even PRETEND to understand the Wachowski's whacked-out philosophy)

And the winner is:

Eraserhead

Now, THAT is one f*ed up film.

Ok, then I would have to put a little known movie called The Hand of God at the top of the list. It was good, but when it was done I was left wondering what had just happened.

"Crumb"...............because it's all true.

Donnie Darko.

After I saw the director's cut last year, I couldn't figure it all out, although I felt that I almost did. I went searching on the Internet, found some old message board from when the movie first came out, and read for hours. And after all that, I still don't think it makes perfect sense, although it almost does. I can't even remember the logical problems I had with it. It is one way out, whacked out flick. But oddly enough, even if it doesn't entirely make sense, it's so ambitious and done so well that you've gotta give it credit. I'd recommend it to just about anyone.

One movie I enjoyed but was difficult to figure out was Memento. You've got to be alert though, and in the end it does all work out.

Absolutely. You need a lot of patience for that one the first time, and more patience than I'll ever have again.

Those were definitely 2001: Space Odyssey, and about the first 3/4 of Pulp Fiction, till I caught on.

i would still have to go with The Passion Of Christ...it was, by far, the biggest waste of time and money i've hever experienced. it left me with a feeling of "why the hell did i let myself get talked into going to see this dreadful movie"

slavejali -> RE: Most Offbeat/Unusual/Whacked Out/Messed Up Movie You've Ever Seen (3/19/2006 12:48:06 PM)

Wolf Creek

I was really messed up over that movie. It wasnt that I didnt understand the movie, it was that it left me with a feeling of not understanding myself over my intense reaction to it.

A few which come to mind are THX1138, A Clockwork Orange and the last Matrix.

I thought ''Unbreakable'' was pretty twisted.

Fight Club - I sat there and just gawked at the screen scratching my head.

Seven - The first time I saw it I remember being very freaked out not because of the movie so much as that someone actually thought out the story and wrote it all down. It messed me up for awhile.

Saw - It was a great film. The intensity of the theme and the ruthless character of Jigsaw was off the charts for me.

No Way Out - I didn't like Kevin Costner that much in the film but the story was one extreme ride from start to finish.

The Day The Earth Stood Still - A classic Sci-Fi film. I remember seeing it as a boy and I was just mesmerized by it.

may i add "attack of the killer tomatoes"?

RedRedWine -> RE: Most Offbeat/Unusual/Whacked Out/Messed Up Movie You've Ever Seen (3/19/2006 3:22:39 PM)

Ok! I can't remember the name of it. It went something like...I married a Strange... I don't know. Lol but it was an animation film about this man who had this chip in the back of his head and he could control things with it. Like he would make his wife's big or small and make balloons out of them, or he would make her fat or skinny, and just control everyting around him. And the government found out about him, and went after him. Lol I swear you had to be on crack to watch that movie. It was insane.

IrishMist -> RE: Most Offbeat/Unusual/Whacked Out/Messed Up Movie You've Ever Seen (3/19/2006 5:10:03 PM)

Hmmmm, runner-ups would be:

Traffic
The Village
The Butterfly Effect
Darkness

And number one would have to be:

The Ring

WHAT??!! One of my favorites! Hey, me and a billion other people on this planet (maybe you too?) believe it happened. And it was the most important thing that ever happened besides the Resurrection Itself. Worth sitting through, in my opinion, but no accounting for taste, and if, as may be the case, you didn't feel the religious power of it, then I guess you would have been put off by it.

I will admit that the religious aspects in no way appealed to me. The movie itself was so-so, probably because of the religious tones, but it was by far the BEST religious movie I have seen in my lifetime.

Evanesce -> RE: Most Offbeat/Unusual/Whacked Out/Messed Up Movie You've Ever Seen (3/19/2006 7:36:27 PM)

Saw. That was one seriously messed up situation, and the ending was a complete and total surprise I never saw coming.

Another one is Strangeland. It's just... just... well, you have to see it.

I had absolutely no desire to go and see this gory two-hour snuff film.

Seriously freaky movie and perfect for this list. I had forgotten about it. :)

besides not being in an understandable language, it was, by far, the worst production i've ever seen...regardless of it's subject matter...Mel Gibson should stick to acting.
