ORIGINAL: LadyEllen Well, for the comfort of all you Americans that fly to and from the UK, I'd like you to know that all the efforts of Homeland Security, MI5, MI6, the CIA, FBI and anyone else you might be relying on to protect you, and all and any of those daft security checks you pass through and procedures youre obliged to follow, are all for nothing. Because the guys and gals working to sort and check baggage are often supplied by temping agencies to the airports, provided with little or no training and subject to background checks that are purely for show. Guess who is most attracted to this sort of work and who put off, by the long hours of repetitive tasks at low pay? And when illegal immigrants from all sorts of exotic and diverse backgrounds can find their way by the same methods and systems into jobs cleaning at the UK Home Office and it takes months to discover it, you can rest assured that air-side security is bang up to scratch too. Security has not been improved one iota since Lockerbie, despite all the rules and regulations imposed since and escalated enormously in the last few years. Anyone with a reasonable level of intelligence and a little funding can get round whatever measures are put in place, especially if they are motivated to do so. And if we insist on low cost air travel that means our baggage is sorted by underpaid immigrants who may well be so motivated, we're just kidding ourselves that any rule will have much effect. E Lady E, you're right again! Any "Security Personel" these days should be highly trained and well paid! Even what we call "Mall Cops" here in the U.S. It's simply *too important* of a job these days! People's very lives depend on those security people. Shopping Malls are considered "soft targets" because it would be so easy for terrorists with guns to go in and slaughter a lot of people with little or no resistance as few mall security guards carry guns in the U.S. and it can take local police 5-6 minutes to respond. If you live in states like Ill., N.Y., N.J. etc you are basically....."on your own" if such an event were to occur. They can just take their time shooting people and when the cops arrive take them out too. In the states I've lived in, Maine, New Hampshire, South Carolina there are plenty of people who carry guns and of course the terrorists must know that. That's a good point about "cleaning people" in govt offices too. And of course that would never occur to "govt people", to them hiring more people to sit at desks and harrass non-terrorists are "security measures." But, those are the "non essential personel" who they tell to stay home as a snow storm approaches! How anyone with only half a brain can think it's a "good thing" to hire illegal aliens at low wages to handle bags that are going on a plane is beyond common sense. Napolitano corrected herself *again*, now she said she meant that the system worked flawlessly *after* the incident! Oh? does she mean the cops and ambulence arrived at the plane like they're supposed to do *anyway?* WTF is she talking about? If the system worked "flawlessly" that savage shouldn't have been alowed on the plane *anyway!* Why couldn't Obama have put an Army or Marine Corps Sargeant in Napolitano's position, would it just make too much common sense? If we were *PROFILING* like we should be doing they probably would have intercepted him. These fucking idiots in our respective governments need to realise that it's ok to "offend" people for the possibility of preventing the deaths of hundreds or thousands of people! What the hell is wrong with them that they can't see that? And why is any Western country allowing Nigerians into our countries? I figured I'd give Obama the benefit of the doubt in his first year but it's just not getting any better. I'm really starting to think that he's just not up to the job. He's more "Republican" than Bush ever was,...by a long shot! Stockbrokers, Bankers and Insurance cos must absolutely love him! He seems to have completely forgotten the average working person in this country. And all the "change" he promised us. And what does he give us, Janet Napolitano and thousands more like her! And if al qeada isn't afraid of him we're all in trouble.
