You haven't heard of it before just recently, and I trust you on that. In fact I have never assumed that very many black churchgoers feel anything like Wright & Company do about white Americans. But honestly, what about the future. Will black liberation theology go more mainstream now? I ask that because the President of the United States has lent his name to it. Officially he has "distanced" himself from it, sure. But it seems like he did so with a wink and a nod because he distanced himself from it only after it became politically necessary for him to do so. It came late in the game for him. quote:
ORIGINAL: lronitulstahp Holy Shit...i've been black 34 years and never heard of any of this type of theology (in Christian churches) until Jeremiah Wright and the election. i never heard of that highlighted part of your post until just reading it. It saddens me and sickens me that such hatred exists in the hearts and minds of men, regardless of color or creed. It really angers me that people so often spread hatred under the guise of religion. Perhaps people think this "ideology" is pretty rampant and far-spread in predominately Black churches. Having attended various churches, i say assuredly... it isn't. Or perhaps that's what people would like to think. i've wondered if Jeremiah Wright was the perfect ammunition for professional fearmongers to use against the more weak-minded and fearful members of the American populace. i promise, i haven't gotten any mail telling me the time and date of the bloody overthrow. It's sort of like my uncle that thinks AIDS was invented by American scientists to kill gays, and African people.....everybody has an axe to grind.... quote:
That's not to suggest that Obama himself is racist, of course, or even that he chose that church because it was racist. From what I've read, he simply saw that Trinity was where the people he wanted to rub shoulders with attended services, and chose it to further his political career. K. The bolded part is probably a big part of the reason i think You're one of the more insightful posters here. Imagine... reading and not having information spoonfed to us. Why, it almost seems like a fairytale, or a time before cable television news networks... "Somewhe-e-rr-re o-ooo-v-e-rr the r-aaaaiiinnnnbbooowwww....."
