Blame it on Bush:

2010 situation grows more difficult for Democrats

WASHINGTON – An already difficult situation for Democrats in Congress is worsening as the 2010 political season opens.

To minimize expected losses in next fall's election, President Barack Obama's party is testing a line of attack that resurrects George W. Bush as a boogeyman and castigates Republicans as cozy with Wall Street.

Four House Democrats from swing districts have recently chosen not to seek re-election, bringing to 11 the number of retirements that could leave Democratic-held seats vulnerable to Republicans. More Democratic retirements are expected.

Over the holiday break, another Democrat, freshman Rep. Parker Griffith of Alabama, defected to the GOP. "I can no longer align myself with a party that continues to pursue legislation that is bad for our country, hurts our economy, and drives us further and further into debt," said Griffith, who voted against Democrats' three biggest initiatives in 2009: health care, financial regulation and reducing global warming.

In the Senate, at least four Democrats — including Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada and five-term Connecticut Sen. Chris Dodd — are in serious trouble. The party could also lose its grip on seats Obama held in Illinois and Vice President Joe Biden long occupied in Delaware.

Nope.  This one is able to sense how the wind is blowing.

Begs the question are those Democrats genuine Democrats. What possibility the Republicans field candidates pretending to be Democrats thus those strategic placements then quit or worse still stay in place to oppose reform proposed by the Democratic Party.

It’s insidious because you never know the true values of the people you vote for.

What I found most interesting in the article, Sanity, wasn't the defection of a blue-dog, but that the Dems are figuring to run against Bush II again.  "Surely, Comrades, you don't want Jones to come back?"

I was incredulous when I read that, and thought, can they plot  a worse strategy???

Obama is already looking weak, this just makes him look, there are a lot of words to describe it... but they can't build on any successes? They can't even chart out any positive direction to head?

Really? Bush? They're running against Bush???

They're weak, much weaker than I had imagined. This could get ugly, for them. Can you imagine the shrillness we'll be witnessing here if it comes to that?

LOL.  I don't need to close my eyes and imagine, Sanity, it has never gone away for a moment.  I completely agree about it making President Obama look weak, and ineffectual, particularly when he "agonizes" for months before doing exactly what the Bush administration decided was the only pragmatic course.

No, I think they knew that last election and left the GOP ticket so they would have a chance at being elected.

If they lose seats it's because they haven't gone far enough to the left; Democrats need to be united with more progressive policies.

For example, Chris Dodd is in trouble because he is too cozy with Wall Street and because he lied about the contents of a bill related to Wall Street. Another reason, dropping the public option. People wanted a public option and about two thirds of the country supports a public option. Even the majority of people in Arkansas and I think Louisiana want a public option. They're not getting it because these senators are being bribed by health insurance companies with campaign contributions thanks to a judicial decision by the Republican Supreme Court. Something needs to be done about the Supreme Court also, maybe I will post a thread about the Supreme Court too. I think there are too many Roman Catholics on that court and the scales of justice are off balance.

Maybe they don't support a public option in Ben Nelson's state of Nebraska but that's because the people don't understand it because they have been lied to in commercials and advertising by insurance companies about rationing and not being able to choose your own doctor, bullshit. Too bad many people believe Sarah Palin and her death panel lies.

Robert Kennedy Junior was right when he said Republicans are 100% corrupt and Democrats are 65% corrupt. Democrats would do better if they get that corruption percentage down more and get rid of some people like Lieberman and Blanche Lincoln and Ben Nelson and a few others in the House too.

I hope you're not the only one who feels that way.

Yes, that's the solution. The more extreme the two sides become and the more they rip the country to shreds, the better. The only thing that really matters here is coming out on top. You are a true visionary, Brain.

Obama had better pay attention to his base like Bush did and keep the base happy if he wants them to work their asses off in the next election. Obama had better remember the people who voted for him did so because they asked for change and not more of the same George Bush bullshit.

If the Democrat's want to blame Bush for everything, they have no reason or business to even run in the Presidential Election. Why else are they wanting the job, I guess they want the situation to fix itself, so they can take credit for it.

I don't see it as the Dems blaming Bush for this, what I see are some politicians who wanted to get elected last election and did not care if they misrepresented themselves to the people.

It did not take a genius to realize the GOP was in trouble last election, so quite a few ran on the Dem ticket and now think that they can win next time by switching parties.

If your fool enough to vote for someone who does not have the balls to stand by his convictions, then you get what you vote for.

I think the people who are switching parties are really showing all they really care about is themselves and are willing to sell out to who they think will get them elected.

And Specter in Penn. has no chance of being re-elected as he's managed to piss off people on both sides and the Independants. The "trick" in politics is "not" to piss people off. Simple isn't it.
Maybe PaHunk could give us an up to date read on Specter living in Penn. as he does.

Our two major parties seem to be in a race to see who can piss voters off the most, too, so the last one in power generally has the most to lose.

Wake me when the label Republican actually means what Robert Taft or Barry Goldwater stood for.  Today's Republicans who stand only for stopping the Democrats, but did nothing when they are in power, isn't worth giving up the nap time.
