Increasing energy efficiency, reducing waste and developing new technologies means understanding the environment and the need of the human population in a given area.  Different types of technologies, methods and solutions are necessary for different terrains, climates and human needs.

Just another wrinkle to the mix.  I can't link, since my local paper no longer provides content online, but there is now a plan in the works to build a 40 mile pipeline to carry recycled water (as in, processed pee), from my little town, up to a new solar energy plant they want to build north of here.  We might make enough off our processed pee to pay for our new treatment plant.

Why?  California law restricts the use of potable (drinking) water in power plants, and the only water anywhere near these sites is what can be obtained from wells.  Oh the tangled webs we weave.
