OK folks, we've (most of us) been stood up before, but what about those times that you wish you HAD been stood up? How do you gracefully extricate yourself from the situation?

When I was in High School, there was a fellow named Howard who had attended the All-boys Catholic High School which was the counterpart to our All-girls Catholic High School.  He was in the same bunch as many of my friends, but we had never met, and when he expressed an interest in meeting me, I let my friend give him my number.

Well, he called, and we hit it off pretty well, so we arranged a meeting. He was to pick me up from my matchmaking friend's house, and go hang out for a while.

Oh lord! Can we just say...repulsive? I could barely stand to look at him, much less have him touch me or try to kiss me! Eeeeewwww! He was certainly a full-body shudder.

Finally, I had to fake an appendicitis attack to get me out of there! He did offer to take me to the hospital, but I had him take me to my friend's house. In retrospect, I don't believe that I ever truly forgave her for not warning me.

Come on now, fess up! What lengths have you gone to? What clever ways do you have to get you free from a bad blind date?

I said i had to use the ladies room, then made an exit through the restaurants kitchen and had to climb over several bags of really smelly trash that were blocking the back door.

I usually sort of know the people I am going out with. There are exceptions...

Several years ago met a gal at a bar on Easter.  I think we were both rather consumed  by the thrill of alcohol as well as the resurrection of our lord and savior, Jesus Christ. Things were proceeding rather nicely so I got the digits.

Called her a few days later, made plans to have some dinner the following weekend.  Date from Hell, worst date maybe ever.

Perhaps it was the wine or the rise of the divine...She wasn't as cute as I remembered. She was an actor....Oooooooh hows I hat the thespians.

She spoke of only herself and mentioned having a few friends if they complimented her.

I drank two bottles of wine and split.

I really don't have much in the way of dating horror stories. I guess meeting Val in college helped save me from that!

However, when I was in early high school I would get really freaked out about breaking up with people. Definately not cool on my part but I once ran in circles around a building and climbed in and out of windows to avoid telling a guy I wasn't even in an "offical" relationship with that I wasn't interested anymore. One of my friends and I even switched clothing to try and make me harder to spot.

Not my brightest moments...

I always met men for dates at coffee shops so it was always easy to get away if I found them not to my liking.

I'd meet him for a coffee, we'd chat over the coffee...15 minutes later I'd interrupt by saying "ya know I'm just feeling that we're not compatible but it was nice meeting you for coffee. I really appreciate you taking the time to do so. I do wish you the best of luck though in your search.". I'd stand up, shake his hand and then be on my way.

No hurt feelings, no awkwardness and we're both free to go on our way.

Except one time where the guy just didn't get it....he showed up with all his belongings packed in his car thinking he was moving in with me..even though we'd only talked a couple days, no pic, nada....I slipped out the back door and never looked back!

I did say on another thread that I phoned a friend from the bathroom with the instructions to call me in 15 min with an 'emergency' that I had to leave immediately to take care of so I could get out of a nasty first date surprise.  I met this man and found out that all of his teeth were black and eroded into abstract shapes. In retrospect I realized that's why in the pics he had sent me his lips were closed.

I met someone for coffee once and all I could see when i got up close to meet him was this gigantic hairy mole on the side of his face. It just sucked in all my attention like a black hole. When he talked the hairs in the mole kind of wiggled around. In his picture you don't see the mole because of the angle the pic was taken from but holy cow that mole was there in person. I told him I really needed to get home and finish the laundry  . It was lame but that was all I could think of and I had to get away from that mole before it came to life.

I've done the "emergency call" thing, it works best when you have kids! In the olden days, before cell phones, I'd say that I had to call home to make sure everything was OK...only had to use that one a couple of times

Worst blind date ? I was 16, summer vacation. Up from Chicago to, believe it or not, Boner's Lake , Wisconsin, just outside of Burlington and Lake Geneva, k ?

Chick was one of those farm girls, waiting for the boys to back in town. Double date. Her name was either Cookie or Skeeter, you dig ? Double date. Other chick was Skeeter or Cookie.

Anyways, her cunt smelled so bad, the other guys taped a plastic bag over my hand and made me sleep outside on the porch.

Sucked, big time, yanno ? Had to eat my brat with my left hand on the way home , with my right out the window.

Never again.

Hi , Skeeter...or Cookie.... Luv ya.

Disclaimer: Temporary thread hijack and I am not "Cookie" or "Skeeter".

OMG !!! I know Boner's Lake, have been to Boner's Lake a couple of times! In fact my Dad left my youngest brother there playing in the sand when we left once...just didn't notice he wasn't with us. We discovered it fairly soon and drove back there like the hounds of hell and he was fine. Just sitting there with his bucket and shovel- didn't even know we'd gone.
I was born and raised in WI and I'd forgotten all about that place till I saw this post tonight...cool.

I went out for a coffee to meet a man who had babe qualities from his profile. He looked good, had a great job, was nice on the phone. His voice was okay.

I was at the cafe first and sat down with my hot chocolate. Before I knew it a fat old man was standing at my table saying my name. This guy was 30lbs heavier than his profile said, 20 years older.

I didnt mention it and either did he.

He called me to go out for the following Friday. I sent him a "I dont think we are a match, thanks anyway, take care" note to his profile.

He contacted me months later and his picture was updated and the stats too.

Honestly.

As if.

I can't say I ever was troubled with the problem myself, however, I once had the displeasure of having to rescue a mate from one ...

One evening, a LONG time ago, was in a club in San Antonio,Ibiza (before it became haunted by dickheads). My mate and I were having a FINE time getting "refreshed" and the club was suitably crowded as to offer unavoidable human contact. I got chatting to a couple of semi clad young birds for a while after having visited the bar and got the drinks in for my mate and I. My mate wandered off towards the dancefloor out of sight ... he was very "refreshed" ...
After about 15 minutes or so it became apparent that the semi clad prey would be heading elsewhere soon so I had to go grab my drunken Scottish buddy. It was difficult to drag him off the dancefloor as he was bopping away with his current object of affection, he could not hear a word I was saying because of the deafening music and waved me away. I therefore nipped back to the semi clad birds and scrounged an eye liner pencil. Once I had ripped the side off a fag packet I was able to write a brief message and hand it to him.
The message read ... "The woman you are dancing with is a man"  (said "woman" had "brushed" against me earlier at the bar which left me in no doubt). We left with the assistance of the door staff after the poor chap registered that he had inadvertantly snogged a bloke and promptly threw up where he stood.

I have to admit that I have never ended a date with dates from hell. I do have to admit that I did meet with someone who dangled my favorite restaurant at me to get me to go out with him. He didn't have a picture but described himself. He was not blond and was 20 years older then his stated age. He was quite suprised when I came back from the restroom. I tried to make the best of it and be polite though he was boring as all hell. I tell them later that we are not a match.

I do admit to ordering a lot of champagne and appetizers and racking up his bill. I did share an entree cause Im not greedy. But the individual glasses of veuve cliquot in the end were a killer. But I was still pleasant till the end of a very fine meal.

Edited to say: Dont lie to me, or it will cost ya!

What.... am i the only one here who does the "let me just get rid of this a-hole so i can go home and watch BBC America" mercy handjob? The date's not going well....start rubbing his crotch....5 mins later...date pretty much over.

After he comes, you say your goodbyes and call him the next day to end the hope of further dates. Everybody's happy. Happy endings, for a happy ending.

Tulip,

You should call yourself an "advertising slut".
I mean, with all the calls from mercy dates you will now get. Do yourself a favor though. Get yourself some fine champagne and a nice meal at least.

LoL Frazzle I can tell ya...there are worse once out there...one fellow also was 20 years older and when we met his manners were far from ok. Another bloke (nice itself and that trip was a nice break, though nevertheless...) whilst his profile stated 286lbs...in reality he was more likely around 450-500lbs...and nope...its not an exaggaration...the fellow afterwards made sure that it remains unknown that he is wheelchair bound until we met, so it seems there is no end of possibilities to omit such "little" facts....so it seems to be quite commen that men think they get away with that...that we women would not realise that or...just forget
