FangsNfeet -> My biggest complaint (3/21/2006 6:32:25 AM)

I was born and raised on American Contenental soil as a USA citizen. Why the hell am I not a Native American?

fastlane -> RE: My biggest complaint (3/21/2006 6:36:58 AM)

Because your mom did not divorce multiple times?  The way I understand it is this. To be considered Native American you must have Four Fathers[:)]

I never stopped to think about it, but why the hell not?

What do you have against Native Americans?  Want benefits or what?

I have nothing against those who are called Native Americans formally known as Indians.
The situation is that I don't have land that I can say I'm native to. I was born in America, why can't I be native to my own country?

Native American denotes Indian blood. American native indicates you were born here. Methinks you are stuck on a matter of semantics.

Mercnbeth -> RE: My biggest complaint (3/21/2006 1:49:36 PM)

With all the important issues in the world, the inability to call yourself a Native American is your "biggest complaint"!

HAH!

What about how hard it is now to include another's quote on CollarMe! That's a REAL front burner issue in my opinion!

Jeez Fangs - PLEASE get your priorities in order!

Perhaps he should be sent some smallpox infected blankets so he can feel like a Native American.

It was odd at first but then I bought and easy button. I hit quote and the back space anything I don't want to quote. That was easy. For everything else, there's staples.

Given what Gauge pointed out, I have no problem calling myself an American Native. I've just never seen that asked before on a information packet. I'll remember that semantic from now own.

If you call yourself an American Native, it won't mean you are, necessarily from the US. You could be from Central or South America as well. Technically, if you are born on US soil, you are a United States National.

It would be nice to get some of their casino benefits.[:o]
There's a new casino opening near us in 2007 by a small tribe that didn't own any land so they negotiated for 55 acres so they could have a casino. Since they are a very small tribe they will all be wealthy very soon because the casino is bound to be a success since it will be the closest one to Seattle.

SirKenin -> RE: My biggest complaint (3/22/2006 10:44:54 AM)

You know what gets My goat?  America is a HUGE continent with several countries on it.  What the hell gives US Nationals or whatever the right to monopolize the term "American"?

I am American too, and I am in Canada damnit.  [:@]

lol

windchymes -> RE: My biggest complaint (3/22/2006 11:05:41 AM)

But "United Statians" sounds really weird.

preciousflower -> RE: My biggest complaint (3/22/2006 11:23:42 AM)

well, here's my thoughts....I have Cherokee blood, yet on tax forms I can't mark I'm "Native American" because I don't have paperwork saying I belong to a tribe....yet if someone of another nationality...no matter how thin the blood line is from there, can claim they are Asia/American, African/American...etc....everyone screams about discrimination, well, the Native American Indiains are the ones that have the shortest end of the stick....to claim your heritage, to my understanding, you must belong to a tribe...have the paperwork and live on a reservation...everyone also talks about this generation needs to repay the wrongs that were done to their ancestors...monetarily of course....so, if we look at it that way...I wonder how much money in back rent for land would the Native American Indiains receive??

No, you're a Canadian.  America is the country.  North America is the continent.  You may be from North America, but you're not American.

I would be yelling "damnit!" as well if I were living in Canada.

He could call himself a Native North American.
