I have 5 tats altogether but none bdsm related. Mine were all done for spiritual purposes or as a memorial to those gone by.

I may get one maybe someday that is sorta bdsm related  I guess but that would be up to Master to decide if he wanted one as a mark.

The tattoo artist I work with most often has his girlfriend's name on his wrist. Except it's not a tattoo...it's spelled out in negative space on a rose. So if they break up, he just finishes the rose and her name is gone forever. That's how you do that properly.

This is as great idea. Thanks for sharing that, Psychonaut!

i have tattoos on my lower legs that i got in college when i was studying wildlife biology - frogs and geckos, to be exact.

i'm now in the process of having them removed via the laser tattoo removal - my decision because they've turned out to be too inconvenient to cover when necessary, i.e. wearing a short dress to a formal occasion.

A note to all - that laser freakin' HURTS.  Like a lot - and afterwards the skin is burned, looks like i'm a burn victim or something (in a way i am) with big blisters and all.  Takes about 2 - 3 weeks to heal.  And you have to wait 3 months minimum between treatments, and it takes 10+ treatments to get them all gone, so i have made a commitment of years before they're all gone.

Anyway, just thought i'd share for those who get tattoos that they may later reconsider - like someone's name or something like that.

Oh, and now all my friends want me to talk to their daughters about how they need to be "really sure" before they get a tattoo.  Yes, i am a walking after-school special......

I'm so glad I waited till later in life before getting my first tat otherwise the various phases I've gone through in my life might now be on me when I didn't wish it! I've heard that beyond the pain to your person, that laser removal is pretty painful to your checkbook as well. Is that true??

Yes, it is.  For me, probably in the neighborhood of $5000 by the time it's all said and done.  Much more expensive than getting the art in the first place.....

I have seen a lot of very tasteful tattoos, but in general.

I admit, i dont like them on females, its like everything else a personal preference.

And a male thats covered in them forget it. I'd be reading them, working out what they were, and no matter what they were doing, my head would be somewhere else

I know we are meant to read our partners, but thats just too much like hard work LOL

No ink - BDSM or otherwise.  I  never could bring myself to see the attraction of having someone jab a bunch of needles coated with a foreign substance repeatedly into my flesh.  Let alone pay them for the displeasure.  My love of art, aside.

For me it starts with the idea that the body is a temple.  Shouldn't a temple be adorned with great art?  That's my reasoning.  My tattoos tell the whole story of my spirituality, and are as close to an expression of religious devotion as I get.  But mostly I love tattoos because how often do you actually get to literally suffer for your art?

My temple art would be more like a Tibetan Mandala made of sand - impermanent.  Can't say I've suffered for my art, but the groans and rolled eyes from those who view it, could be construed as suffering, of a sort.

... have you had any art applied that relates to your interest in BDSM or perhaps to symbolize an M/s or D/s relationship?

I do have a single tattoo that is BDSM (lifestyle) related. I received it from my first husband. It is a wide, very black, Gothic 'S' just over my heart. He meant it to stand for submissive/slave. After I started life over, I had 4 small emerald green leaves to the exterior corners. Each leaf is for each of my children. For me it now stands for survivor and my first name. Over the years I have done several temporary tattoo's to see if I liked them enough or fitted well enough to keep them permanently.

I have friends that have some very beautiful ink, both lifestyle and 'normal' meanings behind them. I will see if I can add some examples with this reply ... I guess they will only allow one per post.

Regards,

Lady Challene

No more after this one ... This one is one of my favorites.

I must say that I do like some of the ones that I have seen around that are done with UV ink.

Im a bit of a tattoo snob, my sisters fiance is a tattoo artist and pretty good at it, so I live in a house where everyone bar one has at least two tattoos, the vast majority being pretty generic stars or flowers or whatever. My brother has a rather cool image of two oriental bunny girls in a provocative position on his stomach.

All mine are symbolic of something, on my back is a large fairy which is representative of my writing (the first story I wrote properly was about a fairy) Down my spine I have hebrew initials of my family (though the formation does seem to read buzz at some angles) and on my right ankle I have a bdsm symbol.

I have plans for a few more, the most likely next will be a vampire bite scar on my thigh.

I have 2 tatts so far. Pic of each in my profile pics, one of which is my avatar here. One is on my left hip and the other on my left shoulder blade. Neither is bdsm related. I have plans for 3 more, one of which will be bdsm related.

Very well done on your new tatt, Bita. I like it.

I don't have any BDSM-related ink, but I have a -slew- of metaphysically-related ink, and just sat through 5 hours yesterday, getting work done on two of my pieces (My Optic Lotus now has COLOR--and so do the dragons on my expanded Elemental Fire-scape). That, in itself, was serious fetish-time for the intensity freak!

For my birthday this year I finally had my first piece done, the whole Family had some input into its design but it was based around something I came up with years ago. Daddy came with me and held my hand throughout, this was my mark even though it was going onto his property. Everyone was green with envy because it turned out beautifully - was a great experience for my first piece.

I based it around a celtic triskelion, full coloured, and some favourite lines of Shakespeare.
The triskele is an ancient motif with a great many meanings - only very recently has it stood for BDSM. Some of its other meanings can be found here and I drew strongly on those meanings.
The colours were chosen for personal/spiritual reasons - peacock blues and greens with some rich purples as well. Strong, healing, passionate colours for me - filled with good energies
The Shakespeare is the final couplet from Sonnet 18
"So long as men can breath and eyes can see,
so long lives this and this gives life to thee"
it has been done using my own handwriting and not a uniform script.

Though it is not a strictly BDSM piece of ink, it is there in the design. I wanted it to be a piece of body art about me, and so obviously there had to be an element of BDSM in it.

You may not be believe me but I found the tattooing experience actually rather pleasent and enjoyable. It hurt in the way a deep massage hurts and was quite easy to lay there and joke around with my friends, tattoo artist and owner despite that I was doing a four hour sitting.

I had a really long session yesterday and tried a new technique. I wasn't sure how it would work -- see, usually, I have my music going and just drift with a specially selected playlist that I've prepared for body-mod events. Yesterday, however, I had a book that I'd been itching to read but hadn't had time to sit down with -- and I knew I was going to be sitting for at least 3 hours (it ended up being 5, because after we were done for the day with all the work we could do on my Optic Lotus for the day, my daughter decided that some of the custom ink colors she'd mixed up would be PERFECT for some of the fire-scape and dragon work on my collarbone/left front shoulder/chest piece, and rather than waste them or have to try to re-make them, we went ahead and worked on that one, too). AAAAAAAaaanyway... I found that I got very consumed in the story I was reading, and it made the time just wizz by, even with heavy color work directly over my spine! I will -definitely- be using reading as a tool for future tat work.

Calla

Eek. I am looking into having mine removed but the price tag for that service set me back a bit - about $2500 for mine (it's pretty small).  Do you think the burn from removal will leave a scar?  Jeez, why can't they just tattoo over it with "flesh color?"
