~FR~

I report a couple of profiles a week which are blatant breaches of the site's TOS. Every time, the profile has been changed/deleted within 24 hours. Only once has this not happened, so I dropped a message to Admin and I got a personal, polite reply and the profile went 'poof' within 24 hours again. I used to pay for another site, and the quality of service was nowhere near as good.

I'm grateful that this site doesn't have pop-up ads every minute, and I don't get spammed with all sorts of crap from advertisers. I'm grateful that I don't have to pay to be here - all this fantastic content for nothing.

I'm also grateful for the scammers. How else am I supposed to get my online entertainment? I report them, then I play with them and do my best to fuck with their heads. Hell, the last guy offered to pay for MY airfare to relocate. I know...it's a gift I have...

Got lemons? Make lemonade!

The calm down was definitely not directed at you, apologies for that....I assume you would agree that there are other posts in this thread somewhat out of proportion to OP? It was them I was thinking of, and more imminently any theoretical mod...trying to indicate that I'm not screaming over here....contrary to popular perception. :)

"when anyone reading can see that you are more likely to have self-control issues." Oh definitely, why else would I think statements like that were offensive.

I am aware that I probably wouldn't be taken as a mod, if nothing else on the 'seeming too keen' side of it....but IMO my point stands, there would not be a lack of volunteers.....indeed, if this thread is anything to go by then a lot of people consider the running of collarme to be positively charitable...should surely garner more well meaning people than the average site...

Also....with really not meaning to sound patronising, because I accept it would have appeared from your view that calm down was to you and understand why that annoyed you, and my apology is genuine....that isn't a metaphor.

And I do not think I need a reality check, the implication that I would demand a free meal at a soup kitchen and complain about the service is damn close to being libellous, and no I am not threatening to sue, asking for it to be deleted, or anything.....but I am certainly not going to reply to such a 'question'. I made a short, calm, polite post to a forum....I think some people should think carefully about why this drew such extreme responses. I am not and have not intended to insult or criticise anyone, calm down. :)

Oh good grief. I didn't imply that you would. It was simply a comparsion to point out why complaining about a free service when the majority of people don't think it's a problem is silly. Soup kitchens were the first thing to come to mind. Chill. And, for the record, no where in my question did I say that you would "demand" a meal, only that they get more volunteers. Reread it.

This entire project is maintained by a handful of volunteers.  If the volunteers stopped doing it, a major international resource would collapse.  And you can't be bothered to spend two seconds per profile to hit the hide button.  Sure, the site has problems.  Everything has problems.  You, however, need a serious reality check if you think Aqua was asking a foolish question.

Have I mentioned that I love you lately Red?

No, just no.

I can be bothered, I have mentioned....I've been using collarme.com for years, I don't think I'm being spectaculorly...or even minorly...unreasonable by making a post about this problem.....nor do I think it is a sign of me crying, being unable to cope, imploding, panicing, being distressed....and I forget the others people've said...you get the idea. Edited to add:I don't think it qualifies as a rant either :p

I appreciate that the mods are volunteers (at least I assume they are), I did not criticise that....the point that there are worthy people willing to volunteer was my point.

And I do not think I need a reality check, the implication that I would demand a free meal at a soup kitchen and complain about the service is damn close to being libellous, and no I am not threatening to sue, asking for it to be deleted, or anything.....but I am certainly not going to reply to such a 'question'. And all the other "well meaning" people who bitch about it aren't qualified either. Those who are qualified don't see it as a problem, sad that you can't wrap your head around that.

As for AquaticSub's statement about the soup kitchens, perhaps it is your lack of reading comprehension that would make you unqualified. I know that she has politely suggested that you re-read the thread.

Would you feel comfortable insisting that a soup kitchen that gives free meals take on more volunteers than they were comfortable with or felt they could manage effectively because five people out of a fifty felt they had to wait too long?

Where does that ask if you would demand a free meal? Do you understand the meaning of "libel?"

libel
1) n. to publish in print (including pictures), writing or broadcast through radio, television or film, an untruth about another which will do harm to that person or his/her reputation, by tending to bring the target into ridicule, hatred, scorn or contempt of others.

Asking a question is not stating an untruth. You have made your reputation here and if you are the "target" of ridicule, hatred, scorn or contempt, you did that to yourself.

We all realize that you are going to continue to try to make your point. We also all realize that you just don't seem to grasp the concept of why your "requested" or "suggested" changes are unnecessary.

"Soup kitchens were the first thing to come to mind. Chill."
Well okay, if you'll admit that in hindsight it's a terrible comparison that bears no resemblance to this discussion? :)

"And, for the record, no where in my question did I say that you would "demand" a meal, only that they get more volunteers." I was there for the ambience? If I really wasn't a 'customer' (ya know what I mean) in your scenario it makes even less sense...

"And all the other "well meaning" people who bitch about it aren't qualified either. Those who are qualified don't see it as a problem, sad that you can't wrap your head around that."
I wasn't suggesting only those people who have started threads about it be considered....but if you genuinely feel volunteers could not be found, I guess that's just a difference of opinion.

"Where does that ask if you would demand a free meal? Do you understand the meaning of "libel?""

Close to libel is what I said, and what I said on my third response to it after two attempts to ignore it I'll point out...I am not trying to make a big deal about it, quite the opposite. And same point as my earlier.....how could the comparison not have included me eating? (or have I severely misunderstood what was meant by soup kitchen?)

"We all realize that you are going to continue to try to make your point. We also all realize that you just don't seem to grasp the concept of why your "requested" or "suggested" changes are unnecessary."
I don't want to be seen as flogging a dead horse, like I said to the admins, I accept the result even if I disagree with it....I'm just replying to people talking to me, if you don't want a reply just say :)
And I know it isn't necessary, lots of things aren't necessary....it is unnecessary for people to be able to filter searches by dominant/switch/sub, but I'm sure people would suggest the feature if it didn't exist.

Nope cause I disagree. I guess you'll just have to stay pissed at me. Lemme know how the libel suit goes.

Having volunteered in a soup kitchen, I can say that most of the people didn't demand anything. They were very gracious and thankful. And quite frankly, why the hell couldn't you be another volunteer or someone working at a homeless shelter who heard a homeless guy complain about having to wait? Oh and why couldn't you be a member of a church that helps in the soup kitchen who heard someone else talking about a guy complaining that he had to wait?

How you got the information really doesn't matter. It's the principle of "free service that does a lot of good where a minority of people have an issue that the majority don't regard as a problem".

I asked a question. I made no statements about you. Feel free to call a lawyer.

Edited for about the millionth time.

I am not 'pissed at you' (nor am I imploding etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc), just...didn't originally feel your post worth responding to. You're not really having much luck persuading me I was wrong in that feeling.

The answer to your question(s) is what I already said....because then your comparison would have made even less sense than it already did to compare a website with a soup kitchen. I am not a passer by who over heard someone complaining about a service I did not use, collarme is not a charity, and my post could not be described honestly as insisting.
Would you try to mend a car by means of painting happy faces on a nearby wall, in order to 'cheer it up'?

Would that be an outrageous method of mechanic.....mechanicism....ology? Yes. Would it be accurate or polite of me to imply your post was the equivalent of this? No...does it bear any resemblance to anything that's been discussed in the thread? No.

"I'm not answering that"
"no I am not threatening to sue, asking for it to be deleted, or anything....."
"after two attempts to ignore it I'll point out...I am not trying to make a big deal about it, quite the opposite."

"call a lawyer."

I used the term "pissed" loosely and a metapher isn't required to be a literal translation of one situation into another. If you don't think I'm worth responding to, then stop wasting your keystrokes and the false accusations of libel.

Edited to add:

I see nothing impolite in your metaphor. Only that it doesn't relate in any way because I wasn't attempting to cheer you, the thread, or anyone on the thread up. My metaphor has the principle of "free service, does good, minority has problem, majority don't agree".

Once again...that isn't what the word metaphor means. I'm happy to stop discussing it with you if you like, as I've had to repeatedly point out....that was my original intention. :)

Uh... yes it is.

met⋅a⋅phor
1.
a figure of speech in which a term or phrase is applied to something to which it is not literally applicable in order to suggest a resemblance, as in “A mighty fortress is our God.” Compare mixed metaphor, simile (def. 1).

2.

something used, or regarded as being used, to represent something else; emblem; symbol.

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/metaphor

In this case one situation is a metaphor for the other.

And, btw, to end a discussion, most people stop responding.
