I have never been harrassed on the boards. On exactly one occasion, I discovered I was being talked about off the boards and did what I had to do. I didn't know and still don't know who those people were, but it didn't matter. I have found the boards and the attitudes and drama displayed too much to stomach on several occasions even though it wasn't directed at me and left for a time. I have also just taken personal breaks. Some of these time periods have overlapped. Again, though, I have NEVER been harrassed on the boards except in the fun loving ways that friends do with each other.
I didn't go through that initiation phase that so many discuss. If people really were that hard on me, I didn't notice. Either I took it in stride and didn't realize it or ignored it by being completely unaware. It doesn't much matter. I just didn't seem to attract the negativity. Part of it is what I put out there. I am pretty good natured most of the time and do the tough love thing with those who either are nasty to begin with or seem open to a little less than cuddly handling. I have received some tough love in return when it has been needed and I have done my best to accept it graciously.
I have followed some of your threads as well as perved your profile and journal, osf, and it is clear some of what you desire and believe with regard to lifestyle things are on the fringe. I live out there in a lot of extremes too. Most of those areas I simply do not discuss on the boards anywhere (here or other sites). I keep those for exploring with my partner because we understand each other in those matters. There are some things you just can't say unless you are willing to deal with fallout. I certainly have the right to say whatever I want (even outside the terms of the tos), but I have to bear the consequences of doing so whether those be positive or negative. If I violate the tos, then a moderator can tap me and let me know that or even ban me from the site. If I say something that challenges the norms of the group, then I am going to hold the minority ground and face disagreement, uncivl responses, ridicule, and more. That is a choice I made to put myself out there. If I think it is worth enduring those things, then I will go ahead and speak my mind. If not, then I know what areas are going to garner such responses and stay away from them.
Choose your battles. This place isn't worth getting all riled up over. Not everyone is going to agree with you or anyone else all the time. Maturely deal with disagreements and the consequences for exercising your right to express yourself here. Anything else seems childish to others and draws the ire of the majority. I am not bothered by how you conduct yourself one way or another. I say what I have to say and that is the end of it. If you really have a problem with anyone here, feel free to discuss it with a moderator. Just be sure to graciously accept how they choose to handle the situation and realize in advance that your case before them may not go in your favor. All my best to you in this and I hope that, if you truly want it, you can find peace here and some enduring friendships.
