And no Ireland is not part of Britain anymore. Thankfully. If you knew that Im sorry, its just some American folk still think we are being colonised
Kevin

s'funny isnt it? The Irish Gaels colonise Scotland and conduct a campaign of ethnic cleansing against the Picts and then, a few centuries later when the Normans turn up such behaviour is a terrible innovation of the English.

Hope that warms yer'up

Damn those Gauls - what did they have against my ancestors (according to my dad) [:D]

and this morning it was a balmy -29 degrees F - or -10 degrees celcius. Bloody cold for Arkansas. I saw ice on a pond on my way home - and it had warmed up considerably to -3 celcius. I had my acurbra hat, my possum and merino jacket, my eddie bauer jacket with thinsulate and possum and merino gloves on, and my feet were a tad cold. It was so cold my eyes were streaming with tears!

It's about 20 F here in Atlanta right now. It was 15 F at 8am when I left work. I'm going to go buy a Prius before the polar ice caps melt from all this global warming. I will never doubt Algore again.

Dropped to 21 around here (feels like 19 they say), and the snow stopped. But since I have no reason to go anywhere I don't much care. Have a nice fire going in the fire place and it is cozy in the living room. Bedroom door is closed, so I will probably be able to see my breath in there later. I like it that way when I sleep.

BKSir -> RE: What is the temperature where you are right now? (1/8/2010 5:38:08 PM)

I still think that I will never see the kind of painful cold I experienced one year when we were living in Phoenix, and I went to North Dakota to visit my mom for christmas.  Literally a 150 degree F. difference in under 24 hours.  Went from 75 F. and sunny to -75 F. with wind chill.  Needless to say, I cut my trip VERY short.  I love the cold, but, that shit just wasn't happening.  Whenever I start to feel "too cold", I think of that trip, and suddenly everything feels downright balmy again.  You know it's way too damned cold when you're wearing an undershirt, t-shirt, sweater, jacket AND WWII russian officer's trench coat, and your nipples are still literally in unimaginable pain from the cold, and the first words out of your mouth when arriving are "where's the ticket counter and when is the soonest I can get out of here?"  Okay, I think that was the second thing I said, the first being "JezizFUCK!", which, at a certain temperature, is an actual number.

About 23F here. Only got a couple of inches of snow, of course we weren't supposed to get more than a dusting. Albany which also wasn't supposed to get more than an inch got half a foot mixed with ice.

Kinda balmy right now, 19F with a wind chill of 11.

Tomorrow's supposed to be kinda nippy, 10F ; Sunday night's gonna have some nasty wind chill, gusts to 22mph.

Arpig -> RE: What is the temperature where you are right now? (1/8/2010 6:00:01 PM)

Its an unseasonably -9 here. We are having a very mild winter here so far...but February has yet to come...BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Fnordstrum -> RE: What is the temperature where you are right now? (1/8/2010 7:28:33 PM)

It's 18 (F) right now, woo.

(In Connecticut -- That temperature is actually from Danbury so it could be off but a couple degrees for here specifically, but, hey...)

Fnord.

Ashcroft -> RE: What is the temperature where you are right now? (1/8/2010 8:10:37 PM)

I'm gonna get yelled at but it's currently 60F herre it was 79 F earlier today. It has been in the mid 40's at night lately. I live in Southern California, by the way.

On a side note I read an article saying that the cooling is a sign of global warming. The fluctuations in temperatures cause large changes world wide. Few years ago we had the coldest winter here in over a century. Night time lows regularly dropped to below freezing. I'd go out to drive to work and find ice on the seat of my motorcycle almost every morning.

kyraofMists -> RE: What is the temperature where you are right now? (1/8/2010 8:18:48 PM)

It is nice and warm here right now at 19F/-7C. It is about 40 degrees F warmer than it was a few days ago. Earlier this week it was -24F/-30C, so it is quite warm right now.

Very typical here in the high desert of Southern California.  41 degrees F at the moment, we won't quite drop below freezing overnight.  There are times I don't like the climate here very much, but I'm good with the winters.

MistressHolly71 -> RE: What is the temperature where you are right now? (1/8/2010 11:10:40 PM)

Minus 29 fahrenheit? good god! I never realized it got that cold in Arkansas. That can't really be what you meant, is it? I feel like I'm getting off easy with -13 tonight in Minnesota.

I'm looking forward to my annual Mid-Winter Full Moon hiking trip on the North Shore of Lake Superior in a couple of weeks. I always go up for a few days at the full moon that falls closest to the end of January or beginning of February. The Ojibwe called that "the moon of the popping twigs," because the nights get so cold the tree branches explode from freezing. It's one of my favorite times to go up there, because you almost always have high pressure that time of year, which means clear skies to see the full moon over the lake, and calm, sunny days for hiking. Typically gets around -20 or -30 at night, which make for absolutely beautiful moonwatching and moonlit hiking, and close to 0 during the day - which is quite comfortable with the sun being so high already. Man, just writing about it is making my heart beat faster. I can't wait.
