Add my name to the wall of those who will definitely be lesser because of our loss of the Ol Spinster. BTW, I was somewhere near the same pasture with him most of the time.

Oh dear God no!

That sucks, that sucks so bad.

I noticed he hadn’t been around for a while.

Even when I didn’t agree with Spinner I couldn’t help but admire his posts. They were always well thought out and well written.

He was a part of the CM family and will be missed.

My condolences to you and yours on your loss.

Rest in Peace Spinner.

Linda,

First of all thank you for taking the time and being thoughtful enough
to post this for us. It is the sort of thing he would have done.

Jeff exhibited a rare combination of traits that have been and will be missed.
From what I observed he was capable of making his points strongly, and firmly
without succumbing to the temptation to use personal invective.  This is a rare
trait in an any internet board, much less one populated by self proclaimed dominants.

Furthermore, although he was obviously familiar with sophist debate techniques
he eschewed them in favor of simple meaningful exchange.   He showed himself
to be more interested in a pursuit of the truth than scoring points and winning.
He set an example for us.

Dear Linda,

Please accept my condolences at this time. I can only imagine your pain at this sudden and untimely loss. A person's life is a precious thing and, though I was not among those that knew your husband, I know that there will be a void in this world for his passing. All my best to you in the coming times and may time and sweet remembrance bring you peace.

Linda,

May you have all the support you need to survive this and find peace. Having loved and lost in this sudden, wrenching manner, I commissurate on your loss.

Know that Spinner will be remembered fondly as a man with strong ideas and ideals, capable of creating a cogent and compelling argument.

Linda,

My condolences to you and everyone in your family, I am shocked this happened and can't believe it. It crossed my mind, briefly, he might have put me on ignore because I started too many threads and that's why I wasn't seeing him on the boards but I reconsidered because that just wasn't his personality to get mad.

After thinking that, I figured he was on a nice vacation in a far away place like Hawaii, maybe for a month. It never crossed my mind his death was a possibility. It's the kind of news that makes me want to punch God in the stomach.

I am definitely going to miss his objectivity because ideology didn't matter to him and he was always on the side of truth and advocating the right or best course of action regardless of ideology; I believe people would call that being pragmatic.

I'm also definitely going to miss his support because there were times I started a thread about something and others didn't like it and he came to my defense. I can't say I ever disagreed with the man on any issue because I saw him as being completely objective.

I was reading other people's comments and somebody said that words are inadequate. That is so true and it's also ironic because Jeff was so articulate and eloquent.

Finally, this reminds me a lot of when we lost Tim Russert, it was also unexpected and a lot of people respected him and missed him too. I would like to think if he is with Tim Russert they are having fun together debating the issues.

Linda,

Please add my best wishes to you and yours during this tragic time. Others said so well what I would hope to convey.

It saddens me to read about your loss. It's a reminder that behind every screen name on the internet there is a person. A father or mother, sister or brother, son or daughter. Someone who leaves behind heartbroken loved ones. It saddens me more when this happens during what is usually a happy, family oriented time of the year. My thoughts and condolences to you and your family and every who knew and loved Jeff.
