I think that when we can't discuss this without resorting to cussing, pictures of the tortured whose images have been flashed around a million times, and implying that those who disagree with a particular approach aren't "making fucking sure" that it doesn't happen again, then we haven't gotten far enough. And as a member of the Jewish community, not to discredit anyone's opinion, I don't think we've truly moved on. Not that I particularly blame us as a group for it - we are still missing grandparents at our Passover tables. I just don't think the path to moving on is to continue to rub salt in our wounds. Edited to add: And, BTW, I am not in any way saying that we shouldn't remember. Only that there is a difference between remembering, reminding and keeping wounds open. I'm not Jewish and have been mistakenly victimised by over zealous nutty pro Jewish types who thought that having a shaved head makes one an instant Nazi ... however ... I'm not stupid and am fully aware that I was dealing with the fucktard minority. Those assholes were no joke, just as there has been no joke here. One would hope that they are, equally, a minority. Agreed, i have several tattoos now, but didn't when i got married in Michigan 26 years ago. i went home for a visit a few years ago, and at the very church i got married in, a few people gave me the "big hairy eyeball" because i must not have "looked" Christian enough for them...[8\|]

If you feel I did such than I am truly sorry. As you'll note, I never said I thought the jokes were funny either. Only that I don't think they warented name-calling and that such a reaction keeps the wounds open. I did see the part of your post where you said we don't dwell on it. I disagree. I think the Jewish community has a tendency to do just that. I am not, in any way, attempting to speak for the Jewish community. I have, in fact, repeatedly used the phrase "I think" and "I feel" to show I am speaking only for myself and reflecting my opinions. I have a great deal of respect for you breathes and your opinions. In this case, I simply and wholeheartedly disagree with you. Which is fine - Judaism has always encouraged lively debate.
