LookieNoNookie -> I learned some new things today... (1/12/2010 5:58:13 PM)

Having never had a colonoscopy before (tomorrow a.m.), I'm discovering some fascinating things:

1) The liquids you have to drink the day prior taste like....well....shit.
2) There is not a single popsicle product out there that tastes anything at all like steak.
3) I have never, until just moments ago, in all my years, having just opened up 2 cans of fresh cat food, ever felt more jealous of my cat.

4) I have to leave now....

Well, lets hope you discover nothing as distressing tomorrow am then

Yeah, the drink stuff is fucking horrid. Just a routine check, LN?

ShaharThorne -> RE: I learned some new things today... (1/12/2010 7:30:46 PM)

Warning...you will be passing wind after the procedure.

*needs to get a scope done herself due to family history*

Level -> RE: I learned some new things today... (1/12/2010 7:40:14 PM)

I passed more than wind after mine; the nurse felt so bad for me, she bought me lunch.

KatyLied -> RE: I learned some new things today... (1/12/2010 8:10:35 PM)

We can put a man on the moon but not find a way to make the colonoscopy prep tolerable.

thornhappy -> RE: I learned some new things today... (1/12/2010 8:25:37 PM)

I've heard tell that it's best to grease up and gather some books before the storm hits.  Woe to them that have only one bathroom with multiple inhabitants.

* needs to get one done too *

There are some neat things that can be done with imaging (can't remember if it's MRI or CT) that gives good results.  They're still in the trial phase, though.  You "subtract" the poop via software.  No prep!

Yeah....just my first lucky opportunity to experience all this "over 50" stuff I guess.

(If I'd have known this was coming, I'd have lied on my drivers license years ago).

KatyLied -> RE: I learned some new things today... (1/12/2010 8:50:27 PM)

I'm not sure there will ever be a non-invasive procedure that will work as well as a colonoscopy, at least for those with a history of colon polyps, but I do look forward to seeing what advances can be made.  People are squeamish about the topic and it is one of the most successful procedures you can have, as far as early intervention regarding polyps that usually turn into cancer if left untreated and have no symptoms until they are problematic.

Oh, it must be about that special time..I am getting one next week, yippee. Yes, the dreaded prep...yikes.

Did you have to drink that jug of GoLYTELY?  My housemate recently had surgery and it was torturous watching her drink that stuff.

WinsomeDefiance -> RE: I learned some new things today... (1/12/2010 9:34:24 PM)

From my experience, the only thing worse than the stuff you have to drink, is the horror of realizing that gorgeous, sexy beast of a man you just flirted with, is the doctor who is going to be shoving that camera up your ass.  Thank god, the drugs kicked in and knocked me out, immediately after I made that realization.

Yes...."GoLytely".

Let me just be the first to say....it is the singularly most misleading product name I have ever heard.

@ LookieNoNookie : "liquids you have to drink the day prior"  ...  Are we going to be getting a "running" report ?
(I suspect you may be too "busy" ? )

Welcome to the club lookie.....what did I get for My 50th birthday? A pair of bi-focals and a colonoscopy.....nor fond of either and not nearly as much fun as the new bike I got when I turned 10....

SweetDommes -> RE: I learned some new things today... (1/13/2010 3:00:15 AM)

It could be worse - I had to give a woman a varient of GoLytely when I was a student. 10 minutes after she started drinking it, it got ugly in that room ... And by the time it was over, all that was coming out was blue liquid. Blue ... like Smurf blue ... *shudders* It was very disturbing.

LinnaeaBorealis -> RE: I learned some new things today... (1/13/2010 5:33:23 AM)

I refused the drugs for the procedure & watched the tv along with the medical staff.  Both times.  I found it fascinating as hell!!  Remember that movie, "Fantastic Voyage"?  Anyone??  Ok, I know I'm old.  But it was just like that for me.  As for the prep?  BLECCCCHHHHH!!!!!!
