Well- who is stopping you?

Turn out your power and send Goldman Sachs some cash.

- problem solved.

What the hell are you talking about, Hunky?

Easy.  To make no pollution- live with no electricity like the Amish.

And in addition- send money to Goldman Sachs.   They take a cut off of all carbon trading.  So just pay them- and cut your power.

Besides- I have to smell the pollution y'all are making.

Ah, I got it now.  And I agree, carbon credits are analogous to indulgences of yore.  Sometimes the way you write is a bit random and it didn't come through at first.  [:)]

Edited to add, I don't agree with cutting the power part.  That plays in to the globalwarmingclimatechangevoodoo logic or lack thereof.  Through you might have meant that satirically.

Headmast, that's it! We need to back to the "old ways" of making "sacrifices!"
Build a huge stone alter for the zombies and cries of; "Off with his fucking head to appease the great global warming GOD!!!"

Having bit the bullet and heard the entire broadcast, and in context, I withdraw anything negative that I may have attributed to Danny Glovers remarks.

Who is Danny Glover, and does he rave a radio show that is listened to by millions?

No, but if he was smart enough to get on Air America he could be heard by dozens.....  [:D]

Have you ever asked yourself why "liberal radio and talk" fails and yet "conservative talk and radio" is a thriving business.

Why do you think that is?

Well, thanks a bunch for the info, guys. I fucking well had to go and find out who Danny Glover was all on my lonelyo online like a sad fuck.

Turns out he's some mostly B movie actor who hasn't done anything of interest for decades.

And there's an entire thread dedicated to what he said, because it was picked up by some no-life-of-my-own bloggers.

The mind boggles.

Alternatively you see something that isn't there in reality due to your bias.

I mean out of interest, is that the exact point where the interview ended?

I did some google work and I could not find this clip in the mainstream press... only on blogs

Wait, what?  Mainstream press didn't cover a liberal asshat??  I'm shocked, shocked!!  [:D]

I was speaking of the fact I could not find the full clip in context... I know context is not important to many people, but it is to me...

Whoa, I thought I was a "dolt," domiguy!  [:D]

But since you asked, I wondered that myself.  I tuned in to Air America and other left-of-center talk shows.  By and large, I found them to be the very caricature that was created around the right-of-center shows, but to the extreme.  Where Rush and Sean at least give air to opposing views, such views are routinely shut down and ridiculed on the AA shows.  Janine Garafolo and company basically preach to the choir, and hang up on anyone with a different viewpoint.

Just my experience, mind you....

ThatDamnedPanda -> RE: Idiot of the Day: Danny Glover (Copenhagen failure led to earthquake) (1/15/2010 11:28:31 AM)

The link in the OP takes you to the interview. Ron's right, the comment was quote completely out of context. Which of course will surprise nobody.

Frankly, I have a hard time figuring out exactly what point Glover is trying to make. At worst, his remarks are semi-coherent, at best he's simply trying to illustrate that poor countries are at peril from a number of threats, and this tragedy should be seen as a reminder to developed nations of their responsibilities to less-fortunate counties.

Headmast, you'd think "Air America" would be doing much better with their hero Obama in office wouldn't you?
Oh wait, seems the repubs have one of their own in the White House now.
The Dems got OWNED in the last election.

I do not listen to Air America.... although I am quite fond of Rachel Maddow... in fact if I were a lesbian she would completely be my type

Dolt, they are exactly the same.  However, for some reason the right loves to have their own beliefs continually regurgitated back upon themselves.  They can't get enough of slurping down their own puke. They don't want to be challenged but to be continually reaffirmed that their beliefs are correct.  No need for the truth, no need to confirm anything.  If it supports my limited views then that is all that I need to know.  It is enough, the truth be damned.

So many, like yourself, will place the words of a Danny Glover right up their with equivalence of what Hannity, Rush, Robertson and any of the other rightwing windbags have to say.  They, unlike glover, have a daily audience of millions.

The most memorable quote, the only quote, that I can ever recall comming out of Glover's mouth is, "I'm getting too old for  this kind of shit."

Millions of dittoheads listen to Rush.  Why is that?

You want to get a feel as to how America really feels about a certain topic? I will never form an opinion on any subject until I find out how Glover has weighed in on the situation.

Dolt.

Marc2b -> RE: Idiot of the Day: Danny Glover (Copenhagen failure led to earthquake) (1/15/2010 11:39:03 AM)

That audio wasn't the best so I am not one hundred percent sure what Glover was saying. At the very least he is using the tragedy to make a political statement - that puts him in the same category as Rush Limbaugh: people too damned insesative to wait a respecteful period of time before turning it into political hay. I don't expect tragedies to never be used to score political points; people are too damned cantankerous, and everything can be twisted to be political one way or another (and besides, some things should be political). It just seems to me that decorum demands a respectful silence while the bodies are still being buried (and we haven't even gotten to that point yet - bodies are still being pulled out of the rubble).

I don't think Glover was saying that the earthquake was punishment from the Earth or some Earth Goddes for our polluting ways (although I don't doubt there are some people who do believe that). That would be as ridiculous as believing that Robertson's idea of God doing it.

Isn't it fascinating how quick people can be to assign blame for large scale natural disaters on some sort of supernatural being as punishment for some wrongdoing on our part? As if something so large has to have a "rational" explanation (God is mad) rather than a natural (and the actual rational) one (like tectonic plates shifting).

I guess I am as bad as limbaugh if having a reaction to the fact that it is always the poorest people that are hardest hit and lack the infrastructure necessary to deliver aid... those are political facts, they are pertinent to what is going on here, and I do not believe it is disrespectful to mention these facts when the most people will be listening to them, which is in the immediate aftermath of a disaster like this

I didnt listen/read the Danny G link but (kittin you may still be too young for this reference) Danny Glovers son was the front singer for a band that was big in the erly 90's Living Color? Corey Glover and I forget the other guy, he ended up moving into my building in NY, oh yeah Vernon Reid. He told me in the hall one day I ought to let my hair go into dreds, I said uh no. Greedy would know that band I bet. I forget their songs but kind of black rock and roll. I liked some of their songs. Me and my friends went to the show in MPLS before I moved to NY and they invited the three of us to get on the bus and basically fuck them silly. I declined.
