That audio wasn't the best so I am not one hundred percent sure what Glover was saying. At the very least he is using the tragedy to make a political statement - that puts him in the same category as Rush Limbaugh: people too damned insesative to wait a respecteful period of time before turning it into political hay. I guess I am as bad as limbaugh if having a reaction to the fact that it is always the poorest people that are hardest hit and lack the infrastructure necessary to deliver aid... those are political facts, they are pertinent to what is going on here, and I do not believe it is disrespectful to mention these facts when the most people will be listening to them, which is in the immediate aftermath of a disaster like this It is absolutely imperative to mention these facts at the time of the disaster when everyone is paying attention. Unfortunately, memories are short. In a month or a year, sadly, no one will give a tinker's damn about Haiti. They will have moved on to the next disaster or celebrity whose bra fell off in public view. But this is also true of disasters in more affluent areas I think. The dogs bark but the caravan moves on. The only cogent thought people have is "Well, I'm glad it wasn't me there when that hurricane, volcano, tsunami, tornado, blizzard struck. Back to my dunkin donuts and lessee what the ball scores are." Unfortunately, a contributing factor to the malaise is that "the poor are too much with us." There seem to be no real solutions. The champions of rugged Capitalism forget it is but a slight slip sometimes from affluence to poverty. Have a look around and see what is happening to our own infra-structure. Starting to become a bit frayed I think.
