I saw on a profile today that someone believed that if you can't post a photo of yourself on such a site, then you're in either the wrong profession or the wrong lifestyle.

Personally I saw this as a bit of an immature opinion, for myself: I would certainly lose my career if I did post a photo, and I enjoy, and am rather good at my career!

Interested to hear what others think. I can understand from the point of pic collectors / fakes etc, however, of course I'd be prepared to send photos via other private means.

What do you think?

Each one of us posts a profile photo or not due to our own reasons which are valid to us. Granted many people hold jobs which having a face picture could jeopardize their jobs, family life, peace withing their community, etc - in varying degrees. I feel that for a person to judge another as a fake because that person has no face photo is pure bullshit in my eyes. Frankly anyone I know here who have no face pics, I don't condemn them as I know the person and I respect their choice not to post a face pic.

And as an FYI...the actual reason why Lucylastic refuses to post her face pic is because she doesn't want to overwhelm everyone with her fabulousness!!!!!

People are allowed to their opinions about this topic. I can understand not wanting to communicate with people that do not post photos... married men often use the "profession" excuse. I took mine down because I realized that the city I actually live in was listed as the place I live. So I could keep that info or delete the photo. I chose to delete the photo. There are students in my program that are into BDSM, and I have talked to them about my interest in it, but I still did not want them to find me on here..so I deleted my photo.

I am not here to meet people, and if I were I still wouldn't care if people thought me fake for not posting a photo. But I am just weird like that....

OP, I think you should do what you have to do to protect your livelihood.  Were I still working at the job I used to have, I would probably have a picture that would only show part of my face, a silhouette of it, or just from the neck down.  Either that or sort of an art drawing of my general (but not detailed) appearance, and then when I started writing to someone I would send them a real face picture of me.  I really doubt that the people who insist on full face pictures, or those who might out you because you have a recognizable one, would pay for your rent, utilities or groceries if you got fired.  I say do what you think is best, and anyone else can just buzz off.  lol

There are a lot of idiots out there who think their pronouncements ought to be accepted as gospel by everyone. Ignore them and do what works for you.

Public servants, teachers, divorced parents with custody and vengeful exes, all kinds of reasons why people don't want pics up.

And then there are people like me. At the time I was searching I had a much older computer and couldn't figure out how to upload pictures. Now that you can email pics from cell phones the process is surprisingly easy.

One other thought. . .

A person might choose not to post a photo because they do NOT have one.  When I was on CM under my other UID, for the first year or so I had no digital photos of myself to put up.  So they may not be fake, they may just be photoless.

I choose not to post photos because number one I'm not looking for a partner. Number two I have 3 adult sons who are very protective of me and no matter what kind of arty picture I'd choose to post there is a danger that one of them would figure out it was me. So why post it then? I have no motive to do so and there is a potential harm in doing it. I just want to keep what I do in my private life private- my family doesn't need to know I'm into BDSM. I have pics to send to people should I ever want to and I've done that, I just don't want them posted on the web.

We have one account that is a Christian organization. In order to work on that account you have to sign a morality clause. Being on a site like this and having it come to light would be a fireable offense.

Part two, I know someone that was fired after a disgruntled ex-submissive printed out his AOL profile and mailed it to his employer.

I think you found an idiot. The writer of that profile couldn't have made it plainer that they're a judgmental person who tends to see complex issues in simplistic, black and white terms. There are 7 billion people on this planet, with a total of 7 billion completely different reasons for doing things the way they do them. Anybody too dumb to comprehend that is best steered clear of, in my opinion.

I don't think it's a cop out at all.  News stories all the time about employers getting online to find out if a candidate for employement has anything online....they usually find them on facebook, and some have to pay dearly for posting pics and vids of they drunken weekend...lol

However, I am wondering what you meant by this.  Just asking because I've had some that actually want my physical address to send me pics.  I don't even want someone have my personal email address...not until I'm ready any way, but I guess that would be an alternative if you didn't want to send it to their collarme email

I certainly agree with the OP.  I don't post a picture of myself due to personal reasons regarding everything in my life, especially my career.

C'mon.  I can understand not wanting to post a face pic, but maybe a pic that shows you, and chopped off at the neck.  Maybe a pic like heartcream's that shows her standing in a lake, but not close up enough to see her face.

There ARE ways to show you adequately without showing your face.

I have 3 pics on my profile, none of my face. I don't for professional reasons and no passive agressive idiot like the one refered to in the OP is going to bully me into throwing away a phenomenal career ;-)

Who cares if you have a pic up?  I think a bigger concern would be getting women to take you seriously with that username.

Oh, c'mon now...that's not very nice.
What if Aunt Bee signs on looking for a Dom to fist her, and sees Goober's face?
Or if Gomer comes here looking for a boy of his own to enslave?

I think it is personal, each individual can decide for themselves how they want to handle it, and talking about it is a complete waste of time.

i get at least 3 emails a day telling me it is a cop out that i have a blocky thing over my face. i dont think anyone i work with would see it, if so, they are on the site as well, but it is more about discretion. If my boss was on here, he wouldnt care that i was, he would care however that i was being indiscrete with a pic up.

Also i have grown kids, and they have friends etc. As far as i know, they dont know about this or the other fetish sites, but with internet searches, you can trip over anything.

i dont do it so to protect myself as much as i do it out of respect for others.

i send out pics in private if so motivated and that has worked out ok so far.

I don't have a face shot on my profile - because i have two adult children, who emphatically don't want to know about their mothers sex life. And - oh gosh - they can use a computer!

I also have a job that is vulnerable to public opinion, which translates to the possibility of being fired if outed to the general public.

My future career (very near future now - Finals on Monday!) is fairly important to me, I love doing it and I think I will be quite good at it. And I probably should change my picture to something far-away/headless,
**********************************
I don't think the NHS would actually want to fire me and risk any media exposure, but I don't want to scare the poor patients. But then again, if they found me on this website (which I use with my personal email address not my official/uni one), who are they to talk?
****************************************
I am sure the NHS does not have  IT or PR people strolling through sites like this when they have an employee to do a background check on.  They have more important tasks at hand.
The patients you will be servicing probably will never get their hands on a computer in their life time.
And yes, if one of your co-workers is on a site like this looking for a counterpart,
then you have something to talk about IF they found you.

And BTW my highest respects to you and your future plans.

This just isn't applicable to you afterforever but to others in public professions.  My Sir was employed as an auditor and was out in public alot for years and his picture never was a problem.

There are several MD's on this site who have their pic up, a chicago excecutive....so if a co-worker is on a site like this, how many chances are there to finding a specfic person and why would they have a reason to out you to the employers, the employer has no right to strip anyone of a job based on their private life.

Removing my picture would probably be a little over-cautious, realistically, but some people don't like to take chances with their livelihoods, which is fair enough in my mind.
