Yeah, that's right, don't send those godless heathens any money. Fuck 'em, right? [:'(] If he doesn't want to send any, fine, but I sent some and have no regrets.............luci

I find it curious that anyone would make a video to say that.

Gosh, I don't think they're godless.

Dunno about the "don't" bit, that's not what I call free thinking ... but it (the clip) highlights the fact that the US media machine actively ignores the plight of those suffering in it's own lands as well as the affluent there being in apparent disregard of their own countryfolk.

Funny thing is, when so much money is being raised so quickly, it does kinda make you wonder WHY there is such poverty in the US.

For starters, Americans like to 'think' in either/or contexts, ignoring any annoying reality and definitely any middle ground.

MistressTonya2u -> RE: DON'T SEND YOUR MONEY TO HAITI!!! (1/26/2010 1:20:42 AM)

I did not watch the clip..youtube kills my dial up connection[&:]

I am not sending money there, not because my attitude is fuck them, but because I prefer to make my donations to adopt-a-cat or the aspca. Also, I do give money/food/shoes/clothes to homeless here in the united states, as well to volunteer at a dv shelter and occasionally I help out at a soup kitchen.

I have seen way too many local people that need help to justify to myself sending money elsewhere.

soul2share -> RE: DON'T SEND YOUR MONEY TO HAITI!!! (1/26/2010 3:36:47 AM)

I'm right up there with Pirate....how can we afford to give away 100 million dollars to rebuild a place that, like it or not, was a poor nation anyway, yet we have starving and homless people right here in the US?????  WTF already?????

I gues I'm cynical or cold hearted, but the US needs to stop bailing out everyone else around the world while ignoring our own.  Bring our military back home to defend OUR borders, spend the money we send overseas here in the US, and since we apparently supply grain and food products to the middle east, make it a fair trade.....$83 a barrel for oil, $83 bucks a bushel for grain......

signed, a poor taxpayer!

i agree with this as far as not financing the rebuilding process, but we should be doing what we can as far as food and medical care.

lronitulstahp -> RE: DON'T SEND YOUR MONEY TO HAITI!!! (1/26/2010 3:50:14 AM)

OP....why don't you give some of your silver to the tent city folks and the Haitians. Charity begins at home yannow!!!!

As far as giving money to Haiti, i donated to the Redcross.....not to necessarily rebuild a county, but because children are dying in the streets with blood poisoning because their limbs are atrophying without proper medical care....those greedy little begging bastards!!!!!!! Wonder if i can get a refund......[8|]

So, what, we just leave them to fend for themselves on the streets of Haiti? If not us then who? All countries have people living on the streets, should they give money to help their own instead of Haiti? Why does it have to be either one or the other? Surely at least most of us can afford to send money to Haiti and still help out their fellow citizens.

Money is being sent Zeph...and hopefully those funds are going toward food, medical care, clean water, etc. I think it is our responsibility to join in with getting the people of Haiti on the road to recovery. But there is a limit, imo.
How about we aide in the effort to get them back on their feet so they can rebuild their own country?

lronitulstahp -> RE: DON'T SEND YOUR MONEY TO HAITI!!! (1/26/2010 4:24:16 AM)

-FR-
Since my post was tongue in cheek, i'm going to assume Zeph was actually addressing the OP...

Anyway, if people feel uncomfortable sending money(though they willingly put it in the hands of rich televangelists so they can build huge churches, rather than reach out to their fellow man*eyeroll) they can also send non-perishables, medical supplies, in some cases, wounds are being bound with cardboard, amputatons are happening at rapid rates, clean bottled water, clothing, toys, etc. The thing is, it makes people feel "off the hook" to complain and scream about money being mis-used and the plight of poor Americans. Yes we have poor people here, but if a homeless American wants to go to a hospital and seek tratment, he won't be turned away. A Haitian person who goes to a hospital in Port au Prince will find a pile of rubble where the hospital once stood. Let's put things in their proper perspective, huh?

Well of course, Holly. The trouble is that Haiti is such a poor country that they need more than that. They will need help rebuilding their country there is no doubt about that which is why they need our help with that as well. I agree, we should help our own but at least there are shelters for them to go to. In Haiti, they don't even have basic, safe shelter.

sirsholly -> RE: DON'T SEND YOUR MONEY TO HAITI!!! (1/26/2010 4:27:27 AM)

i read they were giving Tylenol and Motrin to the amputee patients....it is all they have for pain control. The thought is just sickening.

DesFIP -> RE: DON'T SEND YOUR MONEY TO HAITI!!! (1/26/2010 4:34:58 AM)

It's funny about it  being someone who claims to be so Godfearing yet lacks that essential trait that Christians claim to so highly venerate; lovingkindness.

Sad funny, not ha ha.

Me, I care about people dying slowly without water or any aid, being buried in mass graves.

i agree, but it is not our responsibility to give every man and woman a home. There is building to be done that is imperative...hospitals and nursing homes would be the first in my mind, and God willing help will be there for them.

Musicmystery -> RE: DON'T SEND YOUR MONEY TO HAITI!!! (1/26/2010 5:25:52 AM)

For the cold hearted among you---

1) We will be flooded with Haitian refugees. It is in our own best interests to help. A dollar now is a fraction of what this would cost later.

2) It's off our shores. We don't want other countries taking a position in Haiti.

3) Haitians are poor because they had to buy their independence from France, literally paying reparations to free themselves from slavery---payments that continued through the 1940s! They were already sucked dry. Add a few disasters....

What Haiti needs long term is investment. What it needs now is food, clean water, and medical care.

Stick your noses in the air all you want. Children are lined up to get amputated. Get a grasp on reality here.

AND go ahead and donate to U.S. causes too.

hejira92 -> RE: DON'T SEND YOUR MONEY TO HAITI!!! (1/26/2010 5:37:27 AM)

And just to really irritate some- I made my donation through the Clinton Foundation, not the Red Cross.

They have been working in Haiti for years and actually had the infrastructure of people and resources to help immediately.
