Status: offline 		Well, it looks like it is going to be corruption on steroids in politics from now on.  The SC ruled today allowing Corporations to spend unlimited funds on campaigns.

In response to the GOP being overjoyed

For a party that professes itself to adhere to the Constitution and worship the “founding fathers” so much, I guess they missed when Thomas Jefferson said, “I hope we shall crush in its birth the aristocracy of our moneyed
corporations, which dare already to challenge our government to a trial of strength and bid defiance to the laws of our country.”

Goodbye cares or needs of the people, if you want to be elected in this country, you will need to support whatever corporate money says you should support

The only difference now is big ____ doesn't have to hide their contributions any longer.

Status: offline 		It's a free speech issue. Do you have the same problem with organized labor giving unlimited funds to political parties ? Their PAC money has virtually no restrictions.

The Supreme Court has just predicted the winners of the next November election," Sen. Chuck Schumer announced this morning. "It won't be Republicans. It won't be Democrats. It will be Corporate America."

Indeed, in a momentous 5 to 4 decision that the New York Times has called a "doctrinal earthquake," the U.S. Supreme Court handed down an unprecedented ruling today that gives new significance to the phrase "corporate personhood." In it, the Roberts Court overturned the federal ban on corporate contributions to political campaigns, ruling that forbidding corporations from spending money to support or undermine political candidates amounts to censorship. Corporations, the Court ruled, should enjoy the same First Amendment rights as individuals.

Writing for the majority, Justice Anthony Kennedy said that the Supreme Court rejects "the argument that political speech of corporations or other associations should be treated differently under the First Amendment simply because such associations are not 'natural persons.'"

In other words, as Stephen Colbert put it last year, "Corporations are people too."/snip

Status: offline 		Until Thursday, corporations and unions were barred from spending their own treasury funds on broadcast ads, campaign workers or billboards that urge the election or defeat of a federal candidate. This restriction dates back to 1907, when President Theodore Roosevelt persuaded Congress to forbid corporations, railroads and national banks from putting money into federal races. After World War II, Congress extended this ban to labor unions. More recently, the McCain-Feingold Act in 2002 added an extra limit on corporate and union-funded broadcast ads in the month before an election. Such ads were prohibited if they simply mentioned a candidate running for office.

Thursday's decision swept away all these restrictions./snip

Thank you George Bush. I'm sure your checks for that big presidential library are in the mail even as we speak.

Most of these posts should not be here because this is not a free speech zone.

This is where the left right paradigm is fake.

As we give more power to one far away entity- this is what happens.

I been ranting for a year now over a US coup.  Maybe I cant find the words to say it.

The more we centralize power- the less that peons will be able to decide and participate in  governing their lives.

Monsanto, KBR,  halliburton, Blackwater....  6 of 1, half a dozen of the other.

This will only be of any importance until the next distraction folks.    We have no attention span.

I don't like yesterday's ruling and I am concerned about the impact it may have. Having said that I have not yet seen anyone show any evidence that yesterday's ruling defies the constitution. Everybody hates the decision and I understand that but nobody seems to understand the purpose of the SCOTUS in the first place. Even the quotes I read from the dissenting side address the ruling's impact not its constitutionality. I must be the only person who did not sleep through civics class.

An example would be when the Wriggley corporation owned WGN and The Chicago Tribune. Their OP ed pages and commercials could run without restriction of time or money. This ruling made it fair for all corporations who wish to support a candidate of their choice. It's called free speech, not for a few but for everyone.

The ruling is total bullshit.

Corporations are not human- thus have no constitutional rights.     Absolute Bull shit.
