Hienlien once wrote, "It is not unmanly for a man to cry...in the bathroom with the door locked.  Hysterics are okay too....after the danger has passed, alone, and in private."

I agree.  Doms experience the same emotions as everybody else.  I keep a tight rein on my emotions because that's just who I am.

Not ever?  I've never met anyone who never cried.  Do you find you can connect on a deep emotional level with people, despite being incapable of expressing emotion through tears?  Sorry if I seem to be putting you under a microscope and dissecting you, and I mean no disrespect.  Just curious.

I don't know why.  When I realized that my marriage was failing, when my daughter let me know she no longer wanted contact with me... those things ripped me up inside, but they didn't come out as tears.

DarkSteven, I know what you mean about feeling ripped up inside but not expressing it with tears. I hardly ever cry (and I'm a submissive--I'm supposed to be in tears constantly, right?) but I do get emotional or get that "torn up" feeling.

Yes. Why would it not be acceptable? Now I agree there are times, that as a leader we must push our personal feelings aside, be more stoic, so that we can be seen as in control of the situation. That can only go so far though, and sometimes if it is not appropriate to cry in front of those that look to you for leadership, you step away, let the tears flow, then pull yourself together and do what needs to be done.

It is unhealthy and unnatural to suppress emotions that would cause laughter or tears.

And to the OP: yes. Certain movies, and books, can get to me. So does witnessing courage.

I didn't cry when I lost my home right after the hurricane, but several months later, at Home Depot, I was talking to a woman about what had happened, and it hit me, and I choked up.

why do people ask things like this? Is it acceptable to cry???

yes, if you are human.

not sure about aliens with anal probes though, possibly they are not allowed to cry in their culture.

I don't think a dom crying at the end of a Lassie movie would be super domly, but I'm very happy to admit that I welled up on seeing the news footage from Haiti.

Yes, completely acceptable, whether it's "Kate & Leopold" or stepping on a rusty nail.

If this question was prompted from a Dom crying during or after a scene, perhaps the Dom discovered a limit to ruminate about for a bit before proceeding further.

"You have a right to be nurtured. . .accessing your shadow, as a top or as a bottom, can put you into a state of tremendous emotional vulnerability, and you may need lots of nurturing and acceptance while you are in that state. . . needing to be taken care of does not make you less of a top, it makes you more of a human being."

What I would hope is that if he/she wanted to cry that they would feel comfortable enough to do so in front of me without fear that I would judge them  (I hope that answers your question  )

I cried when My dog died, she was 19 years old.

I also tend to well up at the end of " Field of Dream"..." Wanna have a catch Dad?"

I am clearly fake. Let this be a warning.
