I have yet to find anything that does not go well with some port.

Especially when the murder in question takes the shape of  the forceful stuffing of corn down a goose's gullet. Speaking of which, where's osf *slurrrrpey*?

Saw him in a dark alley scaring all the delicate submissive flowers that were accidentally left unprotected. I was walking away when i heard him giving them the 3 lessons on how to be a slave lol.

Seriously though the whole moral meat. I kinda feel guilty over our "meat system" but never really for being a meat eater. As said before, we are omnivores.... but i do believe that we eat way too much meat, much more then we need/should.

CalifChick -> RE: Moral Meat (1/25/2010 2:35:34 PM)

I tell my sister, who "turned" vegetarian when she got involved with a guy who is vegetarian, that she is ENORMOUSLY cruel.  After all, animals can scream and run away.  Plants? Not so much.

"We take these little baby cows and slaughter them to make veal"
"But Rancher Bob, why do they call it veal?"
"Because not as many people would eat it if we called it 'slaughtered baby cow'"

"I would."

Paraphrased from a South Park episode.

As far as the poor cows and chickens in their conditions, well, I think the conditions are disgusting, but that's just because they're dirty. Otherwise, they're cows and chickens. Not precisely the most intelligent creatures in the world. Not like they know of a better life either, so they're not missing anything... even if they had enough brain power to miss something. Seriously, they're very stupid animals which have a brain that serves not much more purpose than to keep their bodily functions working properly.

Ohh, the bolded bit is getting into dangerous territory I think. I think the fact these animals have burns all over their legs, some walking around missing legs and all that, they know that they are in pain of course they do.

We can't be sure what animals are or arent aware of anyways so it is a bit of a none starter as arguments go

Lyrics to Tool's Disgustipated.

"And the angel of the lord came unto me, snatching me up from my place of slumber. And took me on high, and higher still until we moved to the spaces betwixt the air itself. And he brought me into a vast farmlands of our own Midwest. And as we descended, cries of impending doom rose from the soil. One thousand, nay a million voices full of fear. And terror possessed me then. And I begged, "Angel of the Lord, what are these tortured screams?" And the angel said unto me, "These are the cries of the carrots, the cries of the carrots! You see, Reverend Maynard, tomorrow is harvest day and to them it is the holocaust." And I sprang from my slumber drenched in sweat like the tears of one million terrified brothers and roared, "Hear me now, I have seen the light! They have a consciousness, they have a life, they have a soul! Damn you! Let the rabbits wear glasses! Save our brothers!" Can I get an amen? Can I get a hallelujah? Thank you Jesus. Life feeds on life feeds on life feeds on life feeds on........ This is necessary. "

His work post - The Woodsman (2003) has been mediocre, but he may still be good for light snacking.

Only with lots of BBQ sauce and slow cooking. Kinda scrawny looking.

Or soup meat.

DesFIP -> RE: Moral Meat (1/25/2010 2:45:41 PM)

I've never known a vegetarian who was a farm kid. Only city types who believe meat comes from supermarkets and are shocked to discover otherwise.

The same types frequently eat meat but would never eat venison because of poor little Bambi. Around here, deer are referred to as vermin with hooves. Greatest cause of death in this county are automobile/deer collisions. People swerve to avoid the animal and hit telephone poles instead. Never swerve.

<<<<<<Daughter of a butcher. Never gave any thought to where it came from. Daddy just brought it home and we ate it.

Depending on what you are driving, if the deer hits your car the wrong way, you could just as easily be injured as when you hit the pole. I have hit at least 3 deer in my life, and I don't swerve. I figure if the little fucker is going to jump in front of my car and damage it, it deserves to pay the price.

But does eating meat make you immoral?

Only if I am wearing a real chinchilla coat.

I have to wonder if the native americans sat around the campfire at night debating such things.

camille65 -> RE: Moral Meat (1/25/2010 5:36:38 PM)

Wahhhhhhhh. No one is looking at the bacon link I posted!

DesFIP -> RE: Moral Meat (1/25/2010 5:40:26 PM)

L Lady, according to the State Trooper who's been hunting my land for years, the odds of walking away unharmed if you hit a deer going straight are much higher than if you swerve. Yes, the car could well be totaled, air bags deploying and all. But around here there are ditches, trees and telephone poles and when you hit them you get badly hurt if you live through it.

Add to that, I believe it is collision for your insurance if you hit the deer, comprehensive for your insurance if you hit the pole, ditch, whatever, and your collision detuctible is usually lower.  So, hit the deer.  It is cheaper.

My answer is here : http://www.collarchat.com/m_2994346/tm.htm

How can veggies or vegans argue the toss with my choice ? I was born with meat ripping teeth and can hunt, dispatch and butcher should I choose. I can gather nuts too (rather than buying them from chain stores who pay paupers wages abroad)

Ahhhhh ! NUTS ... (you are what you eat [;)])

There are moral arguments in both directions. I guess your critic happily pays full whack for "fair trade" coffee, chocolate, nuts etc, as well as buying clothing and footwear thhat ain't made by children in sweatshops in the orient ?
