... please consider updating your profile to remove the places where it says you are actively looking for types X & Y (unless, of course, you are seeking some sort of poly arrangement). You will get fewer people bothering you, because you won't turn up in certain searches to begin with. (And you'd save the rest of us a little time. [;)])

John... I would like to introduce you to the message boards... a place where many things can be found and that you can take part in. Now... of course we have some who would just love to eat you up and you are giving them lots of material to hunt, capture, kill and eat you with. Why not take part in some conversations rather than using the boards like a journal, to complain in?

Sorry, I seem to have put the wrong tone across, here. It was intended as a genuine request and suggestion, not a demand. Something that should be mutually beneficial. Perhaps the capitalization of "actively" was the problem. I'll edit that out. (I was mimicking the site, as it's in all caps if you go to edit your profile). This may be the wrong forum, admittedly, but there is another quite active discussion going on about site profiles in this forum, so that's why I put this here.

Since there's no "Profiles" forum that I'm aware of, I think your OP is appropriately placed, and there's no reason for it to be criticized. There are a heck of a lot of OPs that are WAY more along the complaining scale than yours, which I did read as a very mild complaint that also contains a serious suggestion. I'd add to the OP that if someone has listed men of any orientation in their profile's "actively seeking" list, they really think twice before ranting and raving in their journal or profile narrative about not wanting any men to contact them, and that they're only seeking women. I've seen an awful lot of that. The writers should read the whole profile if they're trying to "connect" as a partner with the profile owner, but the owner shares half the blame if their interests contradict their "seeking" list.

Was anyone cruel here or making a point? Light hearted banter and suggesting a couple things isn't out of line in any way. Considering the op's previous post... I think we were rather kind. Added... not that his post was all that bad! It's just venting and I was encouraging him to take part rather than vent... use the boards for more fun or information.

See, this is why people should not assign tone to text. What the OP might have been using as a neutral and perhaps gently persuasive tone can be seen by others as being arrogant enough to try and change every one else here. He could be peeved, or he could be trying to be helpful. The point is, text is emotion-less, not more. There are no nuances of body language or facial expression to give the reader any true idea of the tone unless all caps are used to indicate yelling. The specific language used is also an indicator of the mood of the poster. He used the word 'please' people. Not 'will'. Granted, he did put the word 'actively' in all caps, but that happens often instead of the italics button. Note he also put the word 'please' in the beginning, not the end. So it was not an after thought. He also has a few points. It would be time saving. And it would be easier to deal with in searches. But at the same time, this is a forum board, not a journal. So the poster should have put his pseudo-rant into his journals, true. But then, how many people read them? He obviously wanted to have a lot of people read this. Anyway...
