That is very true, although what has struck me as even crueller all of my sentient life (I was a sensitive child, mature beyond my years), was how so many have to live through so much suffering and pain. There's an inbalance there that suggests... there is no benevolent figure up there.

I like to think that HE (She? Both? Neither?) is a hands off kind of guy. You know that moment when you were learning to ride a bike and mom or dad ran along side you, holding the handle bars for a moment and then letting go - and you had to wobble along on your own for the first time (excited but a little scared because you knew you were going to fall over)? I think that's what God has done - He has let go. He has let go because he knows it is the only way we will learn to move forward on our own. I like to think of us as spiritual embryos. We are hear to learn, by doing for ourselves.

Just a thought.

This is about the best explanation I could imagine. Thank you.

You feel it's a "hands-off kind of guy" precisely because there is no guy. Even if a superior entity existed... why should it be involved in feeling anything for us?

We are so delusional in our hubris that anything cares about us, it's so sad... We are born alone; we live alone; and we die alone. And sometimes, we are lucky to find human love to accompany us through life's journey.

God is a creation of the frightened and scared.

The Divine, being a computer 'outside' our universe, must by necessity be indifferent. Any voluntary action by it would make a lie of Creation, would be false play. So the only action it can take is involuntary action by responding to the wishes and desires of the beings, perhaps even objects, inside our universe, granting them if possible.

Considering its nature, I am not convinced that the Divine has any concept of emotions and values other than as mere mathematical constructs.

If you want feeling, then you have to interact with the (avatars of the) various human pagan gods (these days called extraordinary humans) and with ordinary humans.

I think it's dysfunctional and not emotionally healthy. He must have "sinned" to spank himself.

We're on a BDSM site and you call it dysfunctional and not emotionally healthy.  I'm gonna go on the "General BDSM" section and tell everyone who experiences "sub-space" from pain that they are sick, sick, sick.

Or is it only sick if you administer your own pain and not sick if you can get someone else to do it?  Or is it only sick if you are also a Catholic?  Cuz of course anything and everything a religious person does is dysfuntional and delusional.

Catholics didn't invent this.  Peoples and tribes more ancient than christianity have used altered states of consciousness as religious experiences whether through the endorphin rush of pain or through chemical substances or through deprivation.

We really need to rename this section to Fear and Loathing.

I always found it more frightening to think I was accountable to some unknown ‘being’, which, according to mythology, is rather cruel and judgmental.

Thinking I am accountable to nothing/no one would be much easier.

Coincidentally these are two of the departments of the Catholic church.

They have offices next to Hypocrasy, Exorcisms and Tax Avoidance in the Vatican.

Take a left at Paedophilia Training.

Agreed.  Who the hell am I to say that another's spanking is morally wrong?

And I consider JP II to be one of the greatest men of the 20th century due to his actions.  This revelation does nothing to diminish him in my eyes.
