ORIGINAL: servantforuse We will be there forever. We are not fighting in S. Korea, but we have been there for over 50 years. Bill Clinton said we would leave Bosnia. We are still there. We will always be there. We need to stay in these countries. So we are also fighting in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Yemen, and Somalia. Using the same logic, we will station troops and bases there for another 50 years. This will add another 30-50 bases to the 1,000 military bases we already have scattered all around the world. In that 50 years, at the rate we are going, invading 4 nations every decade, we will have another 20 nations with American troops. At what point, we will have a military base in every single nation of the world? Currently we spend almost a trillion dollars a year on defense and security, or 1/2 of our tax revenue. At what point will the cost of feeding this Leviathan devour our Treasury and bankrupt us? Doesn't anyone fucking read history? For 200 years, Muslims have been harassing and killing Westerners who ventured near their territory. For 200 years, various American Presidents have kept us safe and out of foreign wars in the Mideast, without bankrupting our Treasury or inflaming our allies. In 2001, We demanding that Afghanistan hand over OBL. Had they done that, we would not be at war in Afghanistan, Iraq, Yemen, or Somalia now. Yet in pursuit of this ONE MAN, we have blundered into pointless wars in 4 nations, and are threatening war with a 5th. With every turn, with every development, we open yet another front, invade yet another country, widen the conflict yet more, and draw this out into a 50 year committment that our grandchildren will still be fighting. All because we coudn't get this one man in 2001. Lots of overstatements in your post. Was it just for emotional effect? If not, then your "Doesn't anyone fucking read history?" comment seems kinda ... humorous. [8D][:D] Firm
