I have read most of Salinger and I find him interesting. I think perhaps the mystique over shadows the writing though

You've only mentioned a single work, which you panned.

It's a Salinger thread. What works did you read and enjoy? You might share that.

I can't say he'll be missed because he hasn't the most prolific writer.

On the other hand, it can't be denied that he is one of the most important writers of the last century.

He was my friend, i was able to talk with him over the years there is presently at least 40 more books he has finished..... sadly i am saying this conflict in this Thread would have made him yell at you like you were a piece of cow shit.... his home is so beautiful inside and out.... he had a few pets so i wonder who those are going to?

NPR reported that he had indeed finished works, that he has left instructions as to which should be published as they are and which should be edited. But 40?!

The sniping's no fun, and whatever new Salinger books there are will be interesting to see.

In particular, I'm interested in how his voice and views have progressed over the past five decades.

Yes. I'd read whatever is published by him now, but I tell you, the thought of him having perhaps written a sequel to Catcher, especially many, many years down the road, is going through my head. I'd love to see it.

I knew Jeff was when he knew the original Deep Purple album off the top of his head.

What I have to do, I have to catch everybody if they start to go over the cliff - I mean if they're running and they don't look where they're going I have to come out from somewhere and catch them. That's all I do all day. I'd just be the catcher in the rye and all. I know it's crazy, but that's the only thing I'd really like to be.
