ORIGINAL: MzMia I tell you what, this topic is near and dear to me, for a variety of reasons. There MAY no be a link to the vaccine and Autism, but with the ever increasing number of children being diagnosed with Autism, I believe there is some environmental correlation. I believe there is an environmental factor that may "cause" or "trigger" Autism. The rates of children being born with Autism, is growing at an alarming rate, it is an epidemic. I hope they find out what causes or triggers "Autism" in my lifetime. Autism Numbers Are Rising. The Question is Why? - TIME AGE OF AUTISM: February 2010 hi MzMia i think within the article from Time is part of the answer. Experts note that the CDC database — the Autism and Developmental Disabilities Monitoring Network (ADDM) — is the closest thing to an ideal measure of autism's prevalence. The data are culled from assessments made by health or developmental professionals, including pediatricians, psychologists and language and speech pathologists. In previous evaluations, autism estimates were based on less reliable parental reporting of symptoms or diagnoses. and But as striking as the new figure is, it's not clear how much of the rise reflects a true increase in ASD risk and how much is due simply to improved awareness and diagnosis of the disorders. Increased access to special education classes and other therapies may also be inflating the numbers, as educators and parents enroll more children in hopes of optimizing their learning environment. Indeed, CDC researchers found that among sites where they had access to both health and education records, the prevalence of ASD was higher on average than in sites where only health information was available. That begs the question.... is there really a rise in numbers or are we getting better at diagnosing?
