I am reporting in from Northern Virginia.
Nine inches expected by tonight, and maybe 24-30 inches when it is all over.
I have no intention of going anywhere Monday, I may venture out on Tuesday.

I have what I want and need, I am ready to be snowed in for at least 3-4 days!

*Waving at MzMia!* [:)]

**Waving back at WindChymes, enjoy the snowwwwww!**

MistressTonya2u -> RE: Snow (2/5/2010 6:56:19 PM)

In this part of Va, we may get up to 24 inches...*sigh*

heartcream -> RE: Snow (2/5/2010 7:08:25 PM)

I feel bad for yalls in Virginia and places that are not used to this amount of snow. You dont have the huge fleet of snow removal equipment like we have here in the Frozen North. I am sorry for folks in that way. I hope you can stay tucked in and cosy and do not suffer too much or your cities either.

I'm actually kind of jealous.  I miss snow.  It seems that all it does in the winter in CA is rain.  LOL.

Me too.  All we're getting in GA is a cold, cold rain.   And this rain every 2-3 days is about to drive me nuts.[:-]

Hey ladies!!!  [image]http://www.collarchat.com/micons/m25.gif[/image]

VDOT has over 1800 snow plows on the road in Northern VA this weekend.

(I, like Windchymes, will be plowing out the mountain of snow the plows are kind enough to deposit behind my car.)   [>:]

ShaharThorne -> RE: Snow (2/5/2010 7:36:09 PM)

That is what we have been getting here in Central and Northeast Tx.  I want to reclaim the yard so we can burn leaves and get the inner driveway graveled.

Arpig -> RE: Snow (2/5/2010 9:20:50 PM)

Smiles somewhat condescendingly at the poor Americans having to deal with what is a pretty common thing up here...actually we have surprisingly little snow this year.

Waving my snow shovel at red & MzMia, lol. [:o]

As of 9:30 a.m. Saturday, it looks like at least a foot out there and it's still coming down. My 11-pound-dog has finally resigned herself to squatting in snow, poor thing!

Oh, and the other pisser is, I can't get my satellite signal with the heavy cloud cover, so I can't even curl up and watch tv all day! [:(]

KatyLied -> RE: Snow (2/6/2010 6:48:50 AM)

We currently have reports of 18-20 inches and it is still snowing.  Only essential travel is recommended.

maybemaybenot -> RE: Snow (2/6/2010 6:52:30 AM)

No snow here in nNew England. :(
I'm kinda jealous. I love a big ol Nor'easter or blizzard. Being snowed in for a day or two is a nice chance to relax, do nothing and be guilt free about it. Stay warm and safe you guys who are getting hammered.

Yeah, same here in central New York. Not even enough for good cross-country skiing.

And we have snow blowers here, sitting idle....

DarkSteven -> RE: Snow (2/6/2010 7:02:17 AM)

It happens a couple times a year here in Colorado.  Everybody drives slowly and carefully and cusses a lot, and then life as normal resumes a day or two later.

Kinda bemusing seeing the widespread panic.

Jeffff -> RE: Snow (2/6/2010 7:05:23 AM)

It takes more than 20 inches to close the bars here...:)

Jeff

KatyLied -> RE: Snow (2/6/2010 7:06:52 AM)

I do not think it is panic as much as it is the simple fact that it is difficult to combat 20 inches of snow that fall within a 12 hour time frame.  It creates the need to put out a state of emergency so that idiots stay off the roads.  I have tea and netflix and luckily can walk to the store, if needed.  No panic here.

lovingpet -> RE: Snow (2/6/2010 7:14:47 AM)

Other locales that get this amount of snow regularly and this area are very different.  In the case of this snow, the first thing to realize is that it is not a dry snow.  It is very heavy and taxing the trees and powerlines (oh, and this area has few places where there are buried powerlines, so this adds to the significance).  Further, the state and local transportation departments simply do not have enough equipment to use in order to keep things under control.  Whereas in some areas, there is literally a plow coming through each road every 10 minutes, I still haven't seen a plow on any of the roads in my neighborhood and they have flatly failed to even keep the interstates open and marginally safe.  It isn't panic.  It is simply being aware of the limited resources available.  It directly impacts what kinds of complications we will face.  I've been through quite a few of these situations since this is my home area.  Nothing ever changes, so I am prepared, having fun with the family, and just being careful of our resources and keeping everyone settled to prevent accidental injuries.  We are just fine, but we are also ready.

And yet up the road in Tranna they call a state of emergency for snow that we Quebecers just yawn at and get on with our lives.

I agree though, there has been surprisingly little snow this year, especially after the huge dumpings of snow we've had the last couple of years. Go figure

DesFIP -> RE: Snow (2/6/2010 8:13:38 AM)

No snow here, in southern NY. A friend was hoping we'd get hit, because they have a brand new snow blower and it still hasn't been used.

We got rid of the remaining ice on the driveway yesterday while it was above 32F.

But the temperature dropped 15 degrees from yesterday's high and that's no fun.

Is there snow on the dish?  If that stacks up you'll lose the signal.  My parents never lose signal in snowstorms unless the dish bogs down in snow.

thornhappy -> RE: Snow (2/6/2010 8:29:15 AM)

Dayum, folks.  Dulles is closed.
