I had a parrot for a number of years and he loved my guts. I loved him too. It's a shock and truly devastating when they pass. I'm sorry Hunky.

(hugs)

As others have said hold onto the cage because before long you will need another mouthy parrot to interrupt you while you are on the phone.

It will also help you heal.  For now add some closure.  Have you buried him yet?

So sorry for your loss, PA. I lost my little Peetu < parakeet> a few weeks ago and I know how it breaks your heart. Like others have said, hang on to the cage a little while. Give yourself time to grieve, you never know.

pahunk, I'm really sorry to hear about the loss of your friend. Sounds like it was a very special bird and quite lucky to have been part of your family. May your grief be softened by the fact that you had many years to share and love. I know sadness and loss are great right now, but I hope that soon you will be able to focus on the happy memories only.

I too lost my best friend Farley (who's head is just barely seen bobbing in the bottom of the photo to the left here) way back on February 23rd of last year, and I still miss him immensely. Even given that fact, I still wouldn't trade the 14 years I got to spend with him for anything else in the world.

I have seen a few references made here in this thread to the Rainbow Bridge. I was given a link a while back to something that kinda put it in a good light and more or less explained to me what others were referring to. But I must say, I get a little dust in my eyes or something whenever I watch it.

I believe that when we go to our greatest reward, that we will be re-united with all our beloved ones, and most of mine will be my past animals.
I miss those that have passed. But, they are without earthly strife and bodily suffering now.

Oh. So sorry. really. That sucks. Maybe he was older than you knew. That could be. But seriously, you kept him alive for 7-8 years.  So certainly you did all right as his owner. Its hard not to fault ourselves. BTDT.  But like I said, Your pet had many good years with you. So try to think of the good. Losing a pet is always difficult. xoxoxo Soph

Hello all.

I come up with an idea.

I am going to donate him to a taxidermy guy.  (to keep)

Jenny is not real keen on this idea.

I ran an ad on a recycle site - and a party has responded.

Someone else now can appreciate the parrots beauty.  As I say- I am not interested in the stuffed bird for me.  But maybe someone else can find some joy out of this.

-- so that is the plan.

Sure he's not just pinin' for the fjords?

To the OP: sorry for your loss - may I suggest watching Monty Python's "Dead Parrot Sketch" repeatedly until you feel better...?

That's so sad. I'm sorry to hear about your loss. I wouldn't do anything with the cage yet. Give yourself some time to adjust and then decide. You can always get rid of the stuff later, but if you do it now and then change your mind and want another bird, it will be too late.

I am waiting for the taxidermist to pick him up.

He loved to be looked at.  He adored that.  I hope the guy can use him.   Once he is picked up- that I guess will be a stage of closure.  I told just about everyone who ?needs to know??

but yeah- he loved to be looked at.

Barney my cat turns 22 next week, I've always thought I'd like to have her taxidermied after she does. I just don't know if it would make me miss her more or not though.

Camille-  I will not be getting my parrot back. It would hurt to see him.  However- someone else can enjoy his beauty- but it is too much for me.

I located the guy on freecycle.  I know that can be risky- but - it IS local. We have many hunters here- so it was quite easy.
