jlf1961 -> Just Pick a theory, a short list of conspiracy theories (2/6/2010 7:42:13 PM)

The CIA and the Air Force concealed the fact that a “UFO” crashed near Roswell, NM and that several dead “aliens,” as well as valuable advanced technologies, were recovered from the crash site (and that some of these technologies have been used by the government against its citizens).

The virus responsible for AIDS was created in a government laboratory and then deliberately released into the black and gay communities in order to rid society of “undesirables.”

The CIA deliberately allowed, and in some cases was actively involved in, the importation of narcotics to be sold within inner-city neighborhoods.

Lee Harvey Oswald didn't act alone (or possibly at all).

Princess Diana was killed on purpose.

The government was involved in 9/11.

Elvis never really left the building.

The 1969 Apollo moon landing didn't happen.

Reptilian humanoids control all of us.

The 1993 World Trade Center bombing was orchestrated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

The Montauk Project would put government trained psychics (Duncan Cameron) into a program with the intent of mind control, time travel, and even mental manifestation. Although denied by the government, a few (Preston Nichols, Al Bielek) have given lectures and written books on the subject.

High Frequency Active Auroral Research Program theory claims that HAARP could be used as directed-energy weapon, weather control, earthquake induction device and/or for mind control

Philadelphia Experiment- An attempt to turn a ship invisible that allegedly caused severe harm to onboard crewmembers.

2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami may have been caused intentionally by a "tsunami bomb" - a nuclear weapon detonated in a strategic position under the ocean.

Chemtrail theory: Clouds behind aircraft, having the general appearance of contrails, but alleged to be chemical spraying performed for some secretive purpose.

Some theorists claim that forced transition to Digital television broadcasting is practical realization of "Big Brother" concept. They claim that miniature cameras and microphones are built into Set-top boxes and newer TV sets to spy on people. Another claim describes use of mind control technology that would be hidden in the digital signal and used to subvert the mind and feelings of the people and for subliminal advertising.

An Interesting Article I found dealing with the subject

The Psychology of Conspiracy Theories

Full Article

quote:

In its basic form a conspiracy theory involves the belief that some events or series of events are the result of a systematic, intentional, and usually covert attempt by the architects of the conspiracy to prevent certain facts from becoming public knowledge. The supposed end result of such conspiracies is practically always to promote the concentration of wealth or power in the hands of these conspirators or their “masters.”

Obviously, all conspiracy theories require that there be a “villain,” a group of “them,” who is responsible for a conspiracy which is invariably targeted at “us.” Beyond this requirement, “generic” conspiracy theories are usually “tailored” to specific conditions.

quote:

Goertzel identified three traits as being correlated with a belief in conspiracy theories:

* anomia, the respondent stated a belief that he/she felt alienated or disaffection relative to “the system;”
* a tendency to distrust other people; and
* a feeling of insecurity regarding continued employment.

quote:

Citing Volkan5, who suggested that insecure and/or discontented people very often feel a need for a tangible enemy on which to externalize their anger, Goertzel notes that conspiracy theories may serve to provide an “enemy” to blame for problems which “otherwise seem too abstract and impersonal.”

You're preaching to the persuaded - those that would most benefit from this kind of research have their index fingers firmly planted in their ears. They're too busy devouring what's coming out of YouTube to listen to reason [&:][:(][&o] .

I'll pick door #1 and door #4.

But in all seriousness there have been proven conspiracies.

Watergate and Iran-Contra come to mind immediately.

OP: Essentially you're letting us know you're ignorant and that you'll fall for anything, as long as a lot of other people are also falling for it. Good work.

Don't mention Iran-Contra!

Oliver North is a true American hero for violating his oath to uphold the constitution.

But seriously I agree. There are conspiracies and there are people looking to short circuit the system. That's why the death of news papers bothers me.

I believe there is substance to the rumors about the Montauk Project, to the extent that the government extensively investigated paranormal phenomenon. And I have serious doubts about the "Lone Gunman Theory." I wouldn't go so far as to assert that the Montauk Project ever actually accomplished anything, and i don't think there's any possible way we'll ever know the truth behind the Kennedy assassination. The rest of that list... fairy tales, for the most part. I can't take any of them seriously, with the possible exception of the reptilian alien scenario, which i admit is just way too cool not to be rooting for.

Look, we're amongst reasonable peeps here (until a couple of loonies turn up). We all know that the general public is lied to on a regular basis.

But people who argue that the World Trade Center was an inside jobbie or that the Holocaust didn't really happen are NOT reasonable peeps. Right? Right?

Actually, I am pointing out some of the more insane theories that are out there. I have yet to see one shred of credible evidence to suggest anything but the accepted facts are the truth... but stating that is going to start another thread of insanity.

I subscribe to several theories, especially one about JEH being a CD and living with his assistant for years.  I just don't admit to them.  I am considered a healthy skeptic.  I reason things out before admitting to a theory.

come on you know better!  or you should!  A holocaust is a whole burnt offering, the olah.

unless you are trying to convince us that hitler was making a burnt offering?   are you?

I think we all know and understand the zionist movement and that many zionists are also jews.

Dont we?

as far as the holocaust you got a lot of explaining to do.

Why did the prisoners have an olympic pool  at the worst extreminator death camp of them all auschwitz?

The Kennedy/LHO is phrased a bit too narrowly. I believe that he was "sponsored" by the Mafia, but he was the lone shooter at DP.

Real0ne -> RE: Just Pick a theory, a short list of conspiracy theories (2/6/2010 8:49:31 PM)

FR

how about the one where the king of england granted us the land like what was it 3 years after we supposedly won the revolutionary war?

How about that one?

Losers always "grant" land rihgt?

Winners always pay the kings war debts?  Right?

Oh and winners always give the king a percentage of all the gold and silver dont they?

Its amazingly funny how people did never picked up a history book beyond high school.

Well not that its taugh in "american" schools!

As well as the Enron electricity price fixing conpsiracly, which I laughed off, until it was proven.

In truth, I do belive in the possibility of any sort of weird shit; I would love to find out aliens are real, or ghosts exist or that people can move stuff with their minds.

I just wish there was some real, i.e., scientific, testable, repeatable evidence.

willbeurdaddy -> RE: Just Pick a theory, a short list of conspiracy theories (2/6/2010 9:01:11 PM)

Enron, Watergate and IC don't really fit the mold of the kinds of "conspiracy theories" being proposed. Even Kennedy is borderline, if only due to the passage of time. There are obviously thousands of conspiracies to commit crimes. They dont rise to the level of truthers, birthers, Roswell etc.
