As far as the legacy of his administration is concerned I'm not so sure that the Republicans winning big in the 2010 mid term elections would be a bad thing for Obama himself. Clinton's presidency is viewed favorably by many and he benefited from the GOP taking control of both houses of Congress during the 1994 midterm elections. He didn't write legislation - only signed that which was sent to him by Newt. I think Obama could enjoy the same benefits in the wake of the same happening this November. In all honesty if he isn't already praying for a big GOP win in November he should be.

Yes, of course, so we can spend millions on more pointless investigations and see if Obama ever got head in the oval office.

If he is really, really lucky the GOP will try to impeach him.

You mean like have another daughter and teach her how to grow up to be an unwed mother?
Or maybe give lectures on how good christian married women can and should have affairs?

Why are conservatives so condescending  ? The premise of the OP is that the only available emotions are love and hate, as if more subtle sentiments were beyond us.

To many people, Palin generates neither love nor hate, but rather, mild amusement and exasperation. She still hasn't come up with any original ideas, and her political agenda is completely blurry, yet she is still being touted as the best thing to happen to America since Wal-Mart. PLEASE  ! To her supporters, pointing this out is akin to hating her.

These conservatives are so fucking simplistic. No wonder it's so easy to feel superior to them.

Available emotions run the gamut. Mild amusement however, does not a political movement drive. I doubt tea baggers are the movement that will define a 3rd party, but this country is ripe for one - mainly because a growing segment of the population doesn't think either the end of the liberal-conservative spectrum has the answer. Sure they have answers, but in both cases, those answers are self-serving and dedicated to pushing agendas from their extreme fringes.

Funny thing kittin, your affected superiority complex is a reflection of the same complex that afflicted Republicans in the late 90's, early 2000's. Seems both of you are either too arrogant, too short sighted, or incapable of seeing the obvious similarities.

It is a large part of why conservatives lost, and will be a large part of why liberals will lose. The real question is when will enough people tire of the bullshit floating in from the edges to field a party that caters to neither.

Willbeur do you ever get tired of making a fool of yourself?

Because it's becoming almost painful to watch.

Who's is a contraction for who is.

Now try to fit that into the sentence and see if it makes sense.

whose

pronoun 1. (the possessive case of who used as an adjective): Whose umbrella did I take? Whose is this one? 2. (the possessive case of which used as an adjective): a word whose meaning escapes me; an animal whose fur changes color. 3. the one or ones belonging to what person or persons: Whose painting won the third prize?

who's

1. contraction of who is: Who's there? 2. contraction of who has: Who's seen it?

See, that's the hilarious thing about those tea enthusiasts. They moan that there's no middle line, yet their agenda is decidedly conservative, and their whole organisation is a de facto branch of the Republican party.

Really? They strike more as being the sort of libertarian nutcases who think that the Republicans aren't anywhere near right wing enough to stand for real conservative values, like a society in which the ruling classes don't pay taxes, or their workforce.

Well, let's see... the tea parties were organised by Freedom Works - Google it and see who else they've represented. For an organisation (the effing Tea Party rofl) that professes to be anti-bailout, "anti-socialism", and anti everything, it's ironic that it was created... by the guy that helped with the bank bailouts in the first place.

How can an organisation that claims to be against government intervention at all cost act like a cheerleader for the widening of the Executive power, Cheney stylee, in matters of national defense? How can an organisation that claims to be in favour of "fiscal conservatism" enthusiastically embrace crazy foreign wars that cost a bomb (literally)? How can an organisation that claims to be pro-capitalism also speak in defense of industrial and agricultural subsidies?

Simple: because the organisation in question is a sham, and pretends to be one thing (libertarian and all that crap) in order to tap into the pool of discontented voters who feel robbed by Obama's victory (for reasons that we all know far too well). In short: the organisation is Republican Lite, but the membersheep believes it's a grassroot movement.

It's devious brilliance, it really is.

I do have to admit to giving Sarah Palin credit.

At least she didn't quit halfway through her speech.

True, but she had to make sure she hit all the talking points she wrote on her hand...

This is who the teabaggers are pinning their hopes on for 2012?  Are they trying to guarantee Obama gets re-elected?

The term I've heard coined for fake grassroots movements like that is "astroturf", which I thought was rather cute.

Don't look to me to defend Obama.

The original contention was that Palin and the Tea Party rally had a dearth of ideas.

Interesting that everyone readily concedes that point.

Were you there? How the fuck would you know what ideas were there? Silence is not concession, it also can mean no one cares or no one has enough information to comment.

Seems odd. Usually people with good ideas are anxious to spread them around. You know, the whole getting votes thing.

No, according to the AP reporterette's political philosophy Governor Palin needed a dearth of new ideas - but in reality, all the Governor has to do to please the populist crowd is stay true to old tried and proven conservative beliefs, which she does marvelously well.

~FR~

An AP reporter drew the Palin/Tea Party gig, got there and found there was no story, but had to write something for her AP colleagues who would expect her to cover the story. So she wrote what was---there's no story here.

That this ran at all anywhere is a testament to what a slow news day this was.
