Where are our rights in all of this?

It's ironic, isn't it? There are plenty things that are legal that I believe shouldn't be because they infringe on basic human rights.

We all have our crosses to bear  .

That's awesome kittin, I didn't know that! My Dad told me for years it was illegal and it just stuck. I think it was at one point, but yay..

Ron, I think Aileen was referring to the "original contains wormwood and makes you trippy and groovy" absinthe, and I don't think that is sold in the States. If you know better though, guide me the way, and I will greet the green fairy with open arms..

Absinthe is a frog drink. That fact alone should make it illegal.

the one that did not contain wormwood had to be branded as absinth (minus the e) thats always been legal.

For suicide i am in favour of the Dutch/Swiss model.
Absinthe as far as i am concerned they could ban that. The stuff tastes like shit. Anybody for a bottle about 6 years old who only had 2 shots drunk of it

I see... so if you don't like something, you don't mind making it illegal and thus, deprive the rest of us from it. How mightily generous of you.

" see... so if you don't like something, you don't mind making it illegal and thus, deprive the rest of us from it. How mightily generous of you. "

Watch out, you might find yourself in agreement with me. This would probably destroy this forum and possibly the internet !

The Constitution (written on hemp) was written by people with hemp producers among them. Cocaine was legal so they may have been on that. If not they might have had some paragoric that morning if they were not feeling up to the weather.

If they only wrote laws pursuant to the Constitution there would be very few things illegal.

In any case I would start with drugs. I'd sooner see quiche and sushi illegal, but the reality is just because I don't like it does not give me the right to deprive others.

So everything should be legal except that which interferes with another's Constitutional rights. End of story.

Prostitution is not a victimless crime, that is, as long as it's illegal. The victims are the prostitutes themselves.

Driving while barefoot. Wtf is that? I can drive in 5 inch slippery stilettos but I can't hop in my truck and run my dogs down to the lake in the summer unless I wear shoes?

Seriously?!!! Driving barefoot's illegal here? I had NO idea. That's really pathetic rofl .

If I recall correctly from my driver's ed class, it's because someone's sweaty foot slipped, caused a wreck, people died and nobody wanted to tell grieving families "Sorry but this crap happens".

Or: why you should read a whole thread when it's over two pages long  . I already showed that driving barefoot isn't illegal a few posts up :-) .

*shrugs* I did look over it. Musta missed it. Through my illness-fogged head, I recall that being discussed in my driver's ed classes. Now, if that information was correct, was correct at the time and isn't anymore... I don't have a clue and don't particularly care enough to find out.

ETA - Actually I just realized it would be impossible to find out why it was being discussed in the class. That poor guy has to be dead by now, or at least senile.

Or perhaps your recollection is simply wrong, illness-induced fog and all *wink*.

I always thought it was interesting that commiting suicide was illegal.  I mean how are they gonna punish you?

It's a hazy memory at best and I truly don't care enough to search through the old memory bank. I doubt my memory is so bad that it wasn't brought up at all, I just don't remember the context - if it was a student asking the teacher a "I heard this is illegal, is that true" question or if it was illegal at the time. And, of course, given where I took driver's ed, it's always entirely possible the teacher was wrong.

And, of course, that was about 10 years ago. I've had a lot of beers since then...

They'll execute you, of course  .

FR

Jaywalking because it is a fun extreme sport in rush hour.

Also sectioning off land for only those with cars is elitist and unholy.

It is a barrier to my freedom of movement.

Perhaps I'll hang out at The Absinthe Lounge Friday night, now that it's all legal and stuff! Woohoo!

I've never had real absinthe before.
