Archer -> RE: Previous shooting death by Alabama suspect (2/15/2010 7:13:26 AM)

Hey Brain which southern state was that shotgun manufactured in????????????

Because last I checked the top 3 US made pump shotguns were

Remmingtom ( manufactured in NY)
Mossburg (Manufactured in  CT)
Winchester (formerly manufactured in CT)

Now which of state is now considered "Made in the South"

slvemike4u -> RE: Previous shooting death by Alabama suspect (2/15/2010 7:27:35 AM)

This "made in the south" argument is losing traction fast Brain......

Uh, I gotta go with Archer here, and even then some, it is historically accurate to contend that there isn't much in the way of medium to heavy industry in the south (all the iron rescources were and are in the north, amongst other things) one reason they had poorer equipment in the civil war and lost, by the simple fact that they didnt have enough steel to make steel frames for their guns, they had to use brass which stretches and therefore becomes inaccurate under pressure.

Still today, the biggest employer in the south is the United States Military.

As long as you keep the guns in your states in the south like Bama and South Carolina to “protect” yourselves it’s ok with me.

A family source said Bishop, a mother of four children - the youngest a third-grade boy - was a far-left political extremist who was "obsessed" with President Obama to the point of being off-putting.

That is a completely different issue. Her being a far-left extremist means that she was a pacifist, therefore the cause for her crying out for help must be another cause.[;)] Although the alleged bombing thing fits pretty well with that description.

I really don't know where the gun was manufactured because I'm not a gun person. I'm more interested in sports like football, baseball, hockey and basketball. It may have been one of those states where it was manufactured or in Texas or another southern state. I have no problems with any guns made in Connecticut or New York, having those manufacturing operations and jobs transferred to a southern state. I don't like hypocrisy.

Even if it was made in a state like Connecticut or New York it wouldn't surprise me one bit if it was sold in Texas initially and migrated its way from a southern state to Massachusetts; you can't deny it happens a lot, guns migrate from the south where they are legal to northern states and Canada where crimes are committed.

I reluctantly admit you guys are probably right that these guns are made in the north and because I don't like hypocrisy I really would prefer those jobs and manufacturing operations leave the state of New York or Connecticut or any other state that has tough gun laws. I'm not going to research it because I'm more concerned with that 15-year-old girl shot in the head during her Christmas shopping, but I know guns are made in Texas and some other states in the South.

Sighs.......take away guns, and people will still find ways to kill people.

Brain -> RE: Previous shooting death by Alabama suspect (2/16/2010 11:47:08 AM)

She was not mentally all there that's for sure. And that's another reason they need to be careful making guns available to people who shouldn't have them.

CelticNightmare -> RE: Previous shooting death by Alabama suspect (2/16/2010 11:50:02 AM)

There are bezillions of guns out there. No way to ever confiscate them all-even if laws were passed-which is doubtful. Look at how easy it is for criminals to get black market ones. You cannot legislate and micromange human evil and insanity. They have been trying to do that for thousands of years, and it still does not work.

Brain -> RE: Previous shooting death by Alabama suspect (2/16/2010 11:50:05 AM)

That may be true but the amount of violent deaths will definitely be reduced.
I think people will start using knives and poisons.

You are having a fantasy here. Again, gun control is not the solution. You are oversimplifying a very complex issue.

And that would make the death "better" somehow?

Brain -> RE: Previous shooting death by Alabama suspect (2/16/2010 11:58:54 AM)

I will not travel to anywhere where people are walking around with guns. That applies to the south or any other country anywhere in the world. To imply I am some kind of bigot like Archie Bunker is ridiculous. I don't like guns and it's my prerogative to feel that way.

How do you know it didn't come from the south? It's entirely possible because it happens all the time.
Guns migrate north and people commit crimes.

I'm certain violent crime will be significantly reduced with less guns.

She killed her brother in Boston with a gun that was made in the south and came from the south illegally.
So keep your guns down there and don't let them get smuggled into Toroto or Canada either.

I missed that part where it told where the shotgun she used came from the south illegally?  I read the article.  It didn't even mention the manufacturer of the shotgun.  But Winchester and Browning both are made in Utah, which is also not the South.  Your bigotry of Southerners is well noted.

Every time some whack-job nut-case goes on a shooting spree it's the gun's fault.  The article spent paragraph upon paragraph about how nutty this person was and how someone should have looked into a crazy person having a previous problem with violence.

So there you have it!  It's sad and "a waste" if someone has a really great job and is arrested but not a waste when talking about the people she killed.  Brain, you have a warped sense of good and evil.

She is a kook who could not handle the pressures of her cool job.  If anything, this incident should alert us to the need for better psychological screening of teachers.  Be her Valentine?  Really?  She's misunderstood?  She would not have gone out and bought a 9mm handgun had she not moved to Alabama??  She was just misunderstood, poor woman and she needs Brain to love her because the bad bad bad gun made her shoot people.

Archer -> RE: Previous shooting death by Alabama suspect (2/16/2010 12:09:55 PM)

Well lets see you're next set of potential assumptions of where that gun came from supposes what.

1 a legal pump action shotgun, madein NY or CT in the US and legal to be sold in any of the 50 states at the time of that shooting.

And you want to wax philosophically about how it might have been legally sold in TEXAS and then migrated up to Boston MA, where it could legally have been bought at any gunstore in the state of MA to begin with?

Just admit it Brain your brain is on vacation when it comes to logic and firearms.

Pump Shotguns are legal in even the toughest gun law states in the US.

You state

"but I know guns are made in Texas and some other states in the South."

Well lets see which states and which guns are you talking about KNOWING are made there?

My contention is you actually don't know much of anything about gun manufacturing in any state and only know about interstate sales of guns from the biased new pieces you have read in the newspapers or heard on TV.

mnottertail -> RE: Previous shooting death by Alabama suspect (2/16/2010 12:22:50 PM)

I hod an FFLC and can buy and sell guns in any of the 50 states and district of columbia. If it is mail order it has to be sent to another FFLC. Been like that since day one.

Aylee -> RE: Previous shooting death by Alabama suspect (2/16/2010 12:27:49 PM)

I thought that the whole "migrating" thing was a bit strange.  I can take a firearm, put it in the trunk of my car and travel over state lines.  That is perfectly legal.  Heck. . . living in Kansas I can BUY a long gun in Colorado, legally, and take it home with me.

So why is there this shock that people's firearms move with them?

Archer -> RE: Previous shooting death by Alabama suspect (2/16/2010 12:34:35 PM)

Brain you have every right to not like guns, no problem.

What you don't have a right to is pulled out of your butt "facts" based on nothing. Such as your contention that the gun was MADE in the SOUTH and then illicitly moved up north.

That defies every shred of logic, since pump action shotguns are legal to be bought at any gun store in the state of MA, why would they do anything other than just order one from the manufacturing facilities in NY CT or UT.

You are free to dislike the guns all day long what you are not entitled to do is make up lies in order to support that possition.

So you are moving to the moon when? I hate to break it to you but there are people walking around with guns everywhere on this planet. Including the town you call home.

How are those gun bans doing for reducing violent crime in DC, New York and Chicago?

Related to the topic at hand... I find it funny that the police originally let this woman go in '86, I can understand the claim of an accidental shooting if one shot was fired, but there were 3 shots fired. Then the woman tried to use the weapon to get a ride away from the scene.
