This is a stark difference to every other instance of LGBT discrimination. The issue is that people should be able to comfortably and openly be who they are, without bigotry. Transgendered people are "[X gender] that used to be [Y gender]". There should be no shame in that. If there is shame, though, to have to admit having been born one gender and then deciding you wished to be another, it is wrought from the individual him/herself.

People are certainly free to be deceptive to whomever they wish for however long they wish, but dressing it up in the armor of protection based on sexual minority persecution is not an applicable process in these sort of cases.

This strikes me as a rather harsh and reductive take on the transgendered experience. Frequently you are dealing with individuals who feel that the sex organs they were born with are deceptive as to the nature of their identity. For a MTF, the deception is pretending to be a man, not living as a woman. That's the internal truth.

quote:

Although, I do suppose that choosing to refrain from mentioning it in a public profile is just a matter of taste if the person is openly honest whenever a potential suitor is speaking with them. In that respect, I guess it's just another personal thing that needn't be initially brought out in the open, although it would still confuse me since I would hope the person could wear that part of themselves with pride...but, you do make a good point that there are perhaps enough twats out there that it makes it far too uncomfortable in the harassment realm to have to openly state it.

Perhaps? You might benefit from a course of self-study of violence against transgendered people. Yeah... there really are enough twats to make it more than uncomfortable to openly state "I was born with man-parts, but now I'm a woman!"

quote:

Aren't we just passively condoning the bigotry from the folks who would demean transgendered people if the answer is to allow the deception in order to avoid the consequences?

I disagree that an individual born with man-parts is necessarily deceptive for presenting as a woman. And the part about allowing deception in order to avoid consequence... that would be an easier argument to swallow if the consequences were nothing more than polite rejection by desired romantic partners. Going with the rough definition of "gender" as a social construct and "sex" as referencing the reproductive organs you were born with, I'd say that social relations do not require disclosure of one's sex at birth. Generally speaking, we should all feel free to identify as whatever gender we want in public without fear of any serious "consequence." There is no duty to disclose what type of sex organs one was born with to friends, acquaintances, co-workers, etc. Failure to disclose to those people is not a deception. And when the consequences of disclosure are frequently discrimination and bigotry, I think a certain degree of reticence with that information is eminently reasonable.

How one deals with disclosure when dealing with a person you'd like to see have intimate contact with your naughty bits... that's a trickier subject. I would say that prudence would dictate disclosing sooner rather than later.

----

As for alice... put me in the group of people who don't understand or agree with the harping on her gender. Her profile says "Female." I have no interest in seeing her naked or going anywhere near here dainty bits. So the exact nature of her anatomy today, or 20 years ago, is of no consequence to me. I don't care how many people she calls fat, ugly, or old, she offers plenty of words to criticize without having to assault her gender identity. I wish people would reconsider doing so, because it's a rather ugly thing to do. And it's lazy. Plenty of other things to criticize her for before you get to that.

Considerig I've been the centre of antagonism from some fifty posters since Post 1 and have yet to have a melt down or felt the need to change the size of my font, there really isn't much for me to admire in your behaviour, is there Lance.

Bob, I asked you, back in post 974, to speak to the apparent hypocrisy in your statements about intolerance. Since you posted this again, I'm going to ask you to respond to what I wrote. I'm sure you have heard the old adage of the "pot calling the kettle black"?

People who are in Canada, but just can't resist visiting the site?

They are so very predictable that way.

You never attempt to be respectful of them.

Untrue.

I am honest, direct, candid, real. I am who I am.

I have tried other methods of entering forums, it doesn't matter. As soon as the mob knows I'm there, they are all over me regardless of what thread I'm in or how on-topic I am.

I've seen one thread hi-jacked after another and each one ending locked.

That is the mob's true goal: to silence me.

They just don't want anyone listening to me.

You really have inflated yourself there. If we were trying to stop you, we wouldn't be doing it on the 'Net. We'd be trashing you to local groups in real time where things actually matter.

And how do we know that isn't happening? I'm not involved in any group, so I certainly wouldn't know.

And I fail to see why you believe the mob can't do both, trash me here and in local groups.

This thread did not get moved to Random Stupidity because of me.

It was moved because the behaviour of so many regulars was an embarassment to the site.

If they were behaving better, this thread would have been a sterling representative of behaviour this site could be proud to display to new users thinking of posting their introductions.

Instead it was moved to Random Stupidity.

How do you explain that if everyone was so polite and mature?

Yes it was moved because of you, at least in large part. If you were without blame, the mods would smack those involved and remove their posts and the thread would still be where you first posted it.

And are we to believe it is your position that because it is me they decided not to "smack" me and not to remove my offending posts? They could just as easily drop me back into the ban list and delete the thread.

No, their reasons have nothing to do with me. If the mob were being mature and polite, they'd have left this thread where it was or deleted it and me.

Rule, congrats on fifty.  I'm sure it's a very interesting list.

Thank you. Most were banned rather soon after I put them on my Hide list, is my impression, and most of the others have since died, I suspect.

I'm ever so glad that you asked.

This is open to interpretation, of course, but when you wrote the original, you actually set the stage for the post to be moved.  In the very first post of this thread, you stated:

One must argue persuasively in favour of a Love-based paradigm while opposing, persuasively, a Lust-based paradigm.

Which could be construed as being against the guidelines of the Introduction section as outlined here:

Any other questions of acceptability will be determined based on the content of the post. Keep the discussions civil and mature, and do not insult the kinks, preferences, lifestyles, etc. of others.

There is an Off Topic Discussion category elsewhere on this board if you wish to bring up subjects other than those intended here.

I happen to agree with whichever Mod moved the post.

And all those posts challenging me over my beliefs before the thread was moved had nothing to do with this?

Two and a half years ago you said this: (oh wait...thanks RedMagic for an hour of my life I can't get back...) ok, you said this: "I am confused why so many insist their way is the only way in which to handle death, and that as it was for them, it must be so for me.

I'd have thought those exposed to all the variations of lifestyle and relationship such as exists under the BDSM umbrella would see the dangers in declaring "One True Way" for dealing with death.

It would seem there are actually very few who understand that."

Insert relationships for the word death, and you'll have answered your own argument(s).

Can you articulate your answer (specific answer not apples and oranges) to the above? If you could do so, reasonably and without dissembling, perhaps we could come to an understanding.

I am not intolerant of the beliefs of others. I recognize they have the right to believe what they wish, and I defend that right.

That doesn't require me to be silent about my beliefs, or any aspect of my beliefs. I too have the right to believe what I wish, and the right to express that belief, just as they do.

It is their need to coerce me into agreeing with them that demonstrates their intolerance.

Another strawman. She was quite clear in Her words that you breaking the rules in the very first post "set the stage" for the post being moved. She didn't claim it was the sole reason.

A bit of hypocrisy/double standard now? In the very first post you admit to being opposed to their beliefs and arguing against it.

The others are doing nothing more than opposing yours.

In other words, all it took was for me to express my beliefs in my introduction to incite a riot ... and I am responsible for this, not those whose intolerance for my beliefs chose to riot?
