Brain -> Geo. F. Will - Sarah Palin and the mutual loathing society (2/18/2010 7:46:52 PM)

Unfortunate Sarah cannot win according to George but I did watch some of the CPAC convention where conservatives encouraged Dick Cheney to run. Hopefully he will succumb to their enthusiasm.

Geo. F. Will - Sarah Palin and the mutual loathing society

Why Sarah Palin -- and populism in general -- won't win the presidency.

I've said it before... Palin has little to gain and a lot to lose by running.  Right now, she's a celebrity and she'd have to lose that if she ran.

Cheney had stated several times as VP that he had no plans to run for President and he's consistently reaffirmed that after leaving office.

Romney and Pawlenty are givens to run, and I expect Jindal to put out a few feelers.  Huckabee might try again.  I wouldn't waste energy discussing Cheney or Palin as prospective candidates.

I can't remember where I heard it yesterday but I heard that Dick Cheney flunked out of Yale twice. As much as I want him to I know he won't run. I think he is a dumbass but I don't think he is stupid enough to run and neither is she.

DarkSteven -> RE: Geo. F. Will - Sarah Palin and the mutual loathing society (2/18/2010 8:07:52 PM)

I'm absolutely lost, Brain.  The man was VP for eight years under Bush, and the reason you don't like him is that he flunked out of college?

I don't care if he flunked out.
I don't care if you think he's a dumbass.
I DO care that he helped push us into unneeded wars, may have benefited from Halliburton getting sweetheart deals, and tried to weaken individual freedoms while in office.

Focus on the larger things, not on personal prejudices.

I see more worry about Sarah. You guys are obsessed..or worried..

DarkSteven -> RE: Geo. F. Will - Sarah Palin and the mutual loathing society (2/18/2010 8:09:12 PM)

servant, I don't know where you get that "you guys".  Brain is worried about her, but I'm not.  I don't expect her to run again.

servantforuse -> RE: Geo. F. Will - Sarah Palin and the mutual loathing society (2/18/2010 8:14:21 PM)

I also don't expect her to run. I do have to wonder about the unending threads about her. Personally I hope she does run, but I don't see it..

samboct -> RE: Geo. F. Will - Sarah Palin and the mutual loathing society (2/18/2010 8:34:54 PM)

Well, she's clearly not qualified for public office, but she'd make a hell of a dominatrix....

servantforuse -> RE: Geo. F. Will - Sarah Palin and the mutual loathing society (2/18/2010 8:42:53 PM)

Obama isn't qualified either, but he's in there.

Care to compare her record when it comes to corruption to President Obama's?

I agree that she is not a viable candidate, but she is doing an excellent job of taking the heat off the other potentials.

AnimusRex -> RE: Geo. F. Will - Sarah Palin and the mutual loathing society (2/18/2010 9:25:58 PM)

It appears the Sarah phenomenon is dying away, so there isn't much point to arguing about her POTUS ambition (if there even is one).

But she will continue to be a gadfly and speaker at conferences for years to come.

Tina Fey doesn't think so, Rex.

I dunno about that. I wouldn't want to be topped by somebody that stupid, and I certainly wouldn't want to pay somebody who'd go flouncing off in a sulk halfway through a session...

Yes, if only Obama had that all-important "executive experience" that enabled Bush to take his rightful place as one the greatest Presidents of all time.

Yes.

Show us Obama's corruption, in detail.

Not some vague allegations you saw on a right wing blog.

Give us  facts, details, dates, and whatever other information you think is pertinent.

Why do you wonder?

She constantly keeps herself in the news with contrived controversies.

`Family Guy' actress has Down syndrome

Finally seeing the light. Its about time.

I actually like George Will. At times he's silly, but lots of times he lays out reasonable arguments, and I like to see the reasonable case for positions I may not hold.

Certainly the antithesis of Palin. Conservatives seem determined to become the movement of denial, though. It's a sad, bizarre parody of what conservatism once was, politically and intellectually.

Moonhead -> RE: Geo. F. Will - Sarah Palin and the mutual loathing society (2/19/2010 10:53:21 AM)

Now that you mention that, the neocons do come across more as 19th century liberals, don't they? All of this monetarist shit, trickle down theory and the assumption that charity will provide for the needy even if none of the plutocrats are going to put their hands in their pockets to fund it. Very Victorian liberal.

What sort of executive experience did Lincoln have?
