That's really funny. I don't really know what the fuck someone's religious' beliefs have to do with how "intelligent" they are. I guess if any of you get sick and end up in a hospital....you should tell the hospital you don't want any Jewish doctors working on you. After all, Jews believe the earth is only 6000 years old.

I don't care what someone's religious beliefs are, but anyone who genuinely believes the world is only 6,000 years old is ignorant. Willfully ignorant. And yeah, if i found out a doctor who was treating me seriously believed that, I'd throw him out of the room and tell them to bring me a doctor who was actually paying attention the day they taught science in 1st grade.

I have conversed with many Jewish people, never heard one of them say this...

lots of Jehovah's Witnesses subscribe to the 6,000 year theory - at least in terms of "man being around for.........years"

It's a scary group of people. They have managed to tone down the "creation" talk by cloaking it in the current name of intelligent design.

There are some serious conversations to be had about how life actually manifested itself on this planet. But even those conversations don't point out to having some crazed concept of God.

It's the whole my way or the highway form of Christianity that is continually taught in this Country that is simply horrific. Porr Jesus must be turnning over in his grave while clutching some apatosaurus eggs.

I know; one of them was my uncle. He eventually reached a point where nobody in the family would allow him in their house anymore.

What does this have to do with Jews believing it?

I think I know him. He just rang my doorbell again.

Two came here one day while I was working outside and offered to pitch in.

I give them credit for honest initiative at least.

Oh. sure, they're sincere, decent, very well-meaning people. No question about that. My uncle was a terrific guy; he'd literally give a total stranger the shirt off his back and never think twice about it. The problem was, you just couldn't turn him off. He was literally incapable of not banging the bible every minute he was around the family. People just couldn't take it anymore. They'd tell him, "Please, Jack, we love you, but you've got to stop trying to convert us every time you set foot in the house." And the poor guy just didn't know how. I really felt badly for him when I was a kid; never understood how a grown man could be so unable to control his own behavior like that.

I'll tell you what's fuckin' scary - the USA is a global superpower whose government strongly affects the world and especially Europe and especially the UK which is pretty much the 51st state in almost every way - and every one of the American nitwits who dont have a basic grasp of the last few hundred years of science each have a say in who runs the USA and thence the western world, especially the UK.

Over the last century this hasnt been such a great problem since greater minds have dominated the US political scene, proferring from their midst candidates for government who aint nitwits, whether we like their ideas or not. But now we have a Republican party that seems to have somehow been taken over by nitwits - we saw what happened with Bush Jr in charge, and its only a matter of time before it happens again, to who knows what extreme as the nitwit ratio builds?

Government of the people, for the nitwits by the nitwits is rarely a happy proposition.

Yes, although if 'Little Britain' is any indication, these kind of things might be reflected on both sides of the pond.

Andrew Sullivan said that for his British conservative friends to observe the Americans, it is like seeing your favorite cousin go mad, shave their head and join a cult.

As a former conservative, that is my feeling as well.

Lucylastic -> RE: Deep In The Heart Of Utter Ignorance (2/21/2010 3:32:26 PM)

Little Britain is like fox news...nothing like the real world
well except where it is

I don't think that's an accurate depiction of Judaism.

You've not conversed with me, but you can add another Jew who has never heard of this.  [:)]

Not speaking for all Jews, but most of the ones I know do not reject science and scientific evidence.  I think she's mixing up Jews with some other group.

Fast Reply -

I wish that somehow or other this kind of delirium surprised me. Unfortunately these claims are all too familiar.

(Speaking as someone who survived 12 years of parochial schooling)
