SimplyV -> Setting the Bar (3/28/2006 4:53:05 PM)

In the midst of the neverending whine of "Omg people are so rude" or "Why don't they like me" or "Why do people waste my time by existing if they're not looking to own me" topics..

I'll start my own whine/rant.

I've noticed on several instances.. (I'm not looking for anyone atm mind you) that I've been perusing people's pages and the only pictures they seem to post for people to "notice" (I can only assume they do it with the hope that someone takes notice and wants them) are pictures where they look like they've just survived a tornado? Or just woke up?

Is it just me? Or should there be some effort made to at least comb your hair, if you're looking for someone?

I just finished perusing this one "slave" profile where she whined the entire profile about how people don't find her desirable and all she wants to do is find someone who will love and cherish her..  And her pictures, cept one, all look like she doesn't own a comb/brush, she just woke up, or she took the picture right after spending the entire day cleaning out the garage on her knees.

For me.. should I be looking.. there is a minimum level of "Ability to care for oneself" that I expect. If someone's pictures do not show me that they have at least some ability to care for themselves or show some modicum of self-loving, then I just can't even feign interest.

Any one else's thoughts?

Maybe...but personally, candid shots don't bother me.

I have not minded the pictures I have seen, but feel too much is put on a persons looks anyway and have decided I won't have a picture here.

truesub4u -> RE: Setting the Bar (3/28/2006 6:27:35 PM)

When I receive a e-mail from one with no pic on their profile. I read what is there and the e-mail again to decide if i'm going to respond. Afterwards, if they send yet another, I will ask for a pic, so I can put a face with whom I am speaking to. I feel if they can't supply a pic, they're not interrested in meeting. And then I let it be known, I don't mind running e-mails back and forth, but that's it.

Setting the bar as far as placing a pic on here, I don't need to know how long or thick they are. I do not have to see if they have big pecs or a firm stomache... (nice to look at don't get me wrong)... but not a requirment. Just a facial is fine. And yes, I would appreciate it not looking like they are stoned, drunk, or just jumped outta bed from having a romp with their now lover.  My pic on my profile... shows I can look nice, but not sluttish (that's for more private times.. lol) It does also show.. i'm not a barbie doll, so there for no one can accuse me of trying to be fake because they didn't pay attention when I say.. I'm not a barbie doll. Besides, one thing I have always hated about the internet.. is the.. What do you look like.... I hate describing myself. This way, they can just look and see. But then , that's just me... not everyone will think the same on this.

As a matter of fact... I think who ever came up with the whole A/S/L thingy.. should be hung up by their privates.. and flogged.... [:D][:D]

maybemaybenot -> RE: Setting the Bar (3/28/2006 6:30:00 PM)

I am not looking either SimplyV, and don't have a pic in my profile. But I do share my pics with those who I correspond with here. One candid, two face shots. In all three I think I look presentable. Clean, groomed and neat.
I am of a simlar belief that looks do count.. not beauty... but in a way that makes you look like you care about yourself.

I agree with you that yes they should comb their hair. They should look like they have the ability to care for themselves. What ever happened to first impressions? Does that not apply on here or what? Oh and while we are speaking of caring for themselves- how about brushing their teeth!? Yellow is so unbecoming in one's mouth.[:'(] Then they want to know why they haven't been snatched up. Duhhh, some self care people. Hygiene goes a long way. There really is a minimum level of "Ability to care for oneself" that I expect too. SimplyV thanks for putting that out there.[sm=banana.gif] It really isn't too much to ask for.

TemptingNviceSub -> RE: Setting the Bar (3/28/2006 7:13:36 PM)

To the OP...First off I must say that the ones who do post their pictures are putting it all out there for you to see.(unlike me I have no pic posted..:0)~~)and that is admirable..however..I agree with you that maybe they should umm really look at the pic they put out there.I mean there have been some pics that make you think that all that is missing is the placard that says police department criminal # 3637382.Or you see in the picture the background of their home and the mess that is portrayed makes you think "humm not big on clean I guess"...anyway that is just my 0.02 worth ......be well..Tempting

amayos -> RE: Setting the Bar (3/28/2006 7:35:23 PM)

I agree. So much depends on reputation, and as visual creatures, the first natural input others use to assess us often comes from our visual appearance. While it can be said the nature of the internet values the cloth of one's words foremost, we cannot—and should not—discount the importance, impact and inevitability of personal appearance.

In regards to on-line profiles, one clear and flattering photo of a well-groomed subject is worth more than ten makeshift and mediocre snapshots. We don't all have to be super models, but it is important we be good stewards of our bodies and image, and convey this clearly. Why so many seem to ignore or discount this is a mystery; it is one of the basic tenets of seduction.

ownedgirlie -> RE: Setting the Bar (3/28/2006 9:02:08 PM)

Hmm, maybe they're going for that, "I just finished a sexual romp, don't I look sexy" kinda look....?  ~ grin ~

Nawwww, I kinda doubt that. But good try  lol [sm=applause.gif]

Whiterabbit0117 -> RE: Setting the Bar (3/28/2006 9:19:23 PM)

Actually the ones who whine in their profile save everyone a lot of time.  Better to learn before time is invested.

Vendaval -> RE: Setting the Bar (3/28/2006 9:19:32 PM)

Poor quality photographs, particularly the ones that show a messy home and poor
grooming are a big turn-off.  If someone wants positive attention from their
profile and photos, they need to make the effort to look presentable and attractive.
No need to be a a model or cover girl, just be their best selves.

blkdragn01 -> RE: Setting the Bar (3/28/2006 9:32:28 PM)

I agree.  There is an old saying ... about first impressions.  If one does not take the time to look presentable, it gives a negative impression.

the slave, who displays in some wonderful gorean pose with the mess of a room behind them, they're fabulous for a laugh.
Even funnier that they have sent their profile to a submissive lol.

Frist impression are everything. Always were, always will be. Even if your 22 and a bod to die for.

Arpig -> RE: Setting the Bar (3/28/2006 10:55:33 PM)

I really rarely look at much in the pictures other than the boobs...but i'm just a perv[;)]

Actually, I don't care what the coifure shown is, I rather like the candid, unkempt shots, after all, isn't the idea to get an idea what they would look like in the morning

Arpig -> RE: Setting the Bar (3/28/2006 10:57:14 PM)

great pics Riot...the 2nd one is seriously cute!!! There is SOOOOOOOOOO much mischief in that smile [:)]

Just looked at your profile.

HAIR, who cares about hair, damn, are you still on the sexual rampage. LOL, booking flight for florida. hehe. Maybe I need to clean myself up though.

Back to the topic at hand, hmmm, or rather the unoccupied hand[:)]

As far as my concept on pics is they shouldn't be glamour shots. I mean I don't shave everyday, and I'll probably look kinda ratty after work everday and I work most everyday. So, that'd be what you'd be getting more often than not. I also put more weight to a picture of someone just lounging around, than something that looks professionally done. Because that probably better represents who'd you be getting 99% of the time anyway.

Oh I'm not talking glamour shots and yeah.. a good casual photo is good.  But I would hope that at least 90% of the time the person would at least have semi-combed hair, and look like they've seen a bath sometime that week.

I don't mind a bit of "fix-her-up" but there should be some hygene habits in place.  I'm pretty easy going, but I sure don't want to see a picture that I immediately wonder "Am I going to have to actually force them to bathe or comb their hair?"
