Jeffff -> Keyboard Problem? (2/21/2010 4:23:01 PM)

Let's say a guy spilled a bit of beer on his lap stop keyboard. Lets say even though it was really good beer, the key board seems fucked.

Luckily this guy also has a wireless keyboard. The 'puter itself seems ok. Is the keyboard now permanently fucked?

Any ideas?

Jefff,
Let's say dumb ass guy needs to have his ass beaten for stupidity..... Moving right along is this the type of laptop where the keyboard can pop out? If so, I would pop out the keyboard and slowly and gently use a lightly cool (soft setting warm) blow drying to try and dry the keyboard.

Signed,
She who once watered her laptop with a full glass of ice water.

When I dropped my BlackBerry in the kitchen sink (don't talk to mother & do dishes at the same time), I was told to put the BB in a bag of rice to absorb all the moisture. The BB worked pretty well, but still did some little weird things.

So question is, do you have a big bag of rice?

Call the Geek Squad at Best Buy and ask.  If they're having a slow day they'll give out free advice.  I do it all the time.  I,however, use a low, seductive voice and that might be the key to the freebies.

Good luck.

LOL!... dork

CalifChick -> RE: Keyboard Problem? (2/21/2010 4:57:43 PM)

Jeff you dork.  Stop wasting time, before that crap seeps down into your laptop.  Turn off your computer, and turn it on its side (so the liquid can drain) on a towel.  Take out/off everything you can, but don't open the housing.  Take out the battery pack, any removable drives, network cards, etc.

Then call someone, like these people:  http://www.chicagolaptoprepair.us/chicago-liquid-spills-laptop-repair.html

My father once replaced a keyboard on his laptop.  If he could do it, so can you.  I mean, that guy.

Or just use the external keyboard jack (I THINK there is one).

Valyraen -> RE: Keyboard Problem? (2/21/2010 6:39:17 PM)

If it's got a USB port, there's the possibility of using an external keyboard, wireless or otherwise. Provided the computer itself is working, of course.

Jeffffffffffffffffff (since I can never keep track of how many bloody "f"s there are in your nic), isolate the keyboard as much as possible and give it a bit to dry. If it works, mazel tov! If not, well... yeah, you've got a super-portable desktop computer.

Do as instructed above. Then if you want to keep the KB from being sticky (both in feel and action) pour on a generous amount of isopropyl alcohol 90% pure or higher and NOT rubbing alcohol. The alcohol will remove most of the contaminant and dry (dissipate) residue free.

~Fast Reply~

Said guy should be happy he didn't lose the hard drive.

I uh... may know a chick who accidently fried a laptop with a glass of wine...
