Sanity -> B-b-b-b-ut Bush did the same thing!!! (2/22/2010 5:51:25 AM)

The standard defense for Obama (that he's just like Bush) won't cut it in this case:

quote:

Obama tops Bush at ducking reporters

No formal press conference in 215 days

President Obama, who pledged to establish the most open and transparent administration in history, on Monday surpasses his predecessor's record for avoiding a full-fledged question-and-answer session with White House reporters in a formal press conference.

President George W. Bush's longest stretch between prime-time, nationally televised press conferences was 214 days, from April 4 to Nov. 4, 2004. Mr. Obama tops that record on Monday, going 215 days - stretching back to July 22, according to records kept by CBS Radio's veteran reporter Mark Knoller.

The president has seemingly shunned formal, prime-time sessions since his last disastrous presser, when he said police in Cambridge, Mass., "acted stupidly" by arresting a Harvard professor who broke into a home that turned out to be his own. The off-the-cuff comment took over the news cycle for a week, overshadowing his push for health care reform, and culminated in a White House "Beer Summit," where the president hosted white police officer James Crowley and the black Harvard professor, Henry Louis Gates Jr.

Maybe you shouldn't rely so much on the Washington Pravda (oops...Times), organ of the Republican Central Committee. From a more balanced article in US News and World Report:

quote:

(Obama) gave 161 [interviews] during his first year, according to the New York Times, compared with 50 by George W. Bush

quote:

There are larger trends at work. The mainstream media have less clout at the White House because the public has developed such a disdain for journalists

Naaaa, he's running out of ways to dis Obama, so he's had to dip to the bottom of the barrel to come up with something to use to criticize him [8D]

Lucy, Google "press conference" then Google "interview".  Educate yourself a little before you post, because there are vast differences between the two.

In a press conference for example, the president often has to field tough questions from hardened reporters and there might be followup. It goes out live and there is no hope if a mistake is made of coercing the news agencies involved to edit out something that doesn't go smoothly.

But in an interview the presidents handlers get to choose the interviewee, they can research that person doing the interview and get an idea what the person will ask and then they can coach their student president on how to handle each situation before it even comes up. They can set preconditions, demand edits, and in a one-on-one situation the child president can far more easily spin his answers or simply refuse to answer tough questions directly.

OH Sanity, dont start  trying to teach me how to read or comprehend...
After your ducking and diving and calling people liars when its you that got shit wrong
you never did apologise to anyone did you or even admit you were wrong
I care little about your "facts" because in the broader scheme of things  it is all just words to make an anti-obama insult and rile people up.It aint working pal
Now go away or I shall taunt you a second time

Thanks I needed a good laugh this morning.  Cause that is awfully funny coming form you.

I seem to remember something once upon a time,  what was that?  Something about pots and kettles?

Oh and in a news conference there are often setups.  They call on who they wish and often place people in certain positions so they can easily call on them and ignore people they don't want to answer.

Sanity -> RE: B-b-b-b-ut Bush did the same thing!!! (2/22/2010 6:48:38 AM)

No defense of your precious, precious Obama? Just more of your trollish empty-headed attacks against those nasty messengers who keep reminding you of the awful reality that the president who is supposed to be some brilliant Harvard scholar can't speak publicly without sticking both of his feet in his mouth unless its either 100% scripted or its in a controlled environment?

Thats all you got? "Attack the messenger"???

[sm=rofl.gif]

You may as well just admit it - Bush was a better public speaker than Obama is.

'Thats the real problem with the president hiding behind Lucy's skirt right there. This is the most secretive administration ever, and the "chief" refuses to answer the hard questions.

Best thing about Pots and Kettles is that they aways take the Heat. The only difference is between somebody Fried or Boiled.

Well he could been like our last chief, when he was asked hard question, he'd have that dumb founded (monkey) look upon his face, and the proceed to rephrase the question in a form of an answer. Can't win for loosing.

I'm going to have to part ways with you on this, Sanity.  Bush II was no orator.  Even on his best days, with his best topics and an approval rating in the 90's, he just wasn't that good as a public speaker.

On the other hand, assuming your facts are in order, we can say he had more courage to stand up and take the heat than we are seeing from President Obama.

The really sad thing is what it says about the intelligence of a nation who would elect him not once but twice.

As far as Sanity goes he has shown he is little more than a troll just looking to provoke people for his own amusement.  He's better left ignored.

Sanity -> RE: B-b-b-b-ut Bush did the same thing!!! (2/22/2010 7:05:35 AM)

Bet Bush never tried to ship better  inhalators to all 57 states though... [;)]

But still, I have to hand it to you Libs. I underestimated you...

You can say that Obama is just like B-b-b-bush in any thread that could possibly come up!

Oh agreed.  In the same matter as circus clowns.  Good for a laugh but not an actual conversation.
