From 1980 to 1998 there were 1037 deaths of children under 10 years of age due to accidental suffocation in TX. 477 were white, 195 were black, 353 were hispanic, and 12 were "other". From 1999 to 2004, there were 92 deaths of children under age 10 due to accidental obstruction of airway in TX, with 26 being white, 22, black, 42, hispanic, and 2 classified as other race. The discrepancy is most likely due to the change in the International Classification of Disease which was implemented in 1999. Source: www.edhp.com using vitalweb engine to determine statistics for Deaths of children under age 10 in TX by race. In order to determine if LaT's assertions were correct, it would be necessary to do a socio-economic evaluation of child deaths due to choking. This could be done according to area, or it could be done individually. Since individual data is difficult to come by, i.e. very expensive, as you must sign papers stating that you're not going to disclose personal information, then there are high fees for obtaining such data. Aggregated data could be mapped, then analyze socio-economic factors of mapped areas, cultural factors, so on and so forth. A map could be drawn up showing the spatial variation of death of children under age 10. Yeah. edited to correct statistice to statistics - I hate that!
