I'm doing a quick reply at the moment, letting it be known I plan on sharing some of my own experiences. I'm going to step out from behind what could be misconstrued/mistaken as behind the keyboard positioning. Since experience has been indirectly called into question here.

... I'll take the bait and bite.

Although I didn't identify anyone specifically posting to this thread, my position stands. My first hand experience in real life with the many people I've met, supports it and qualifies my broad-stroke 'keyboard' representation.

I find that I agree with a lot of what you say but that line there I don't..

I once heard someone say they prefer clarity over agreement. I respect that your first hand experience differs from mine; I appreciate that you don't agree with me. I trust I've been clear.

Then again, sometimes when you think you are clear....

Seems like some people have been trying this shoe on to see if it fits.

Read it again. There was nothing pointing to anyone being or accused of being a "fake". I said that many, I would say all but of the many people I've met I'm sure at least one or two did not alter their perspective, people with only had 'on-line' to draw upon change their attitude regarding labels and absolute definitions once they step out from behind the keyboard.

My opinion comes from direct first hand experiences - yours may differ and I was not trying to convince anyone otherwise; ergo the "clarity over agreement" comment.

As far as personal representation; every time it's asked, I point out that beth is really a made up character and in reality is the alter ego of my life mate; a 380 pounds, bald, male. Both of us living in my parents basement in the Vailsburg section of Newark. Anyone who has met us in person will validate that representation.

BTW - for the semantically inclined, would 'fake' rank above or below 'doormat' on the insult scale? I'm starting a 'one-true-definition' for on-line BDSM message boards. I already have bob (whoops I mean beth) doing the research.

I guess maybe I read a little of that New York Smart arse in some of that :> I've gotya now.

Having spent considerable time in that basement, I can confirm that everything Merc said above is twue. Hey Merc, make sure that Bob... err beth.... adds fabric softener when the buzzer goes off on the washing machine. Dad gets grumpy when he....oops, she forgets [:D]

As for the whole doormat thing- after 31 pages, I have come to the conclusion that it would make me insanely happy were I never to hear that word again, no matter the context. From this day forward, the mat outside my door will be known as the 'welcome thingie' [8D]
