Sanity -> RE: Lone senator blocks unemployment benefit extensions (3/1/2010 6:03:48 AM)

Its not welfare, its blackmail. The states don't have a say in it, the feds just take the money then put conditions on giving it back. Federalized speed limits, federalized seat belt laws, and federalized drinking ages are three examples that immediately come to mind. I'm not arguing whether the laws that the feds force the states to enact are good or bad, I'm arguing that its an unconstitutional  infringement on states rights for the feds to use the various states' citizens own monies to do so.

And so some state citizens get back a few percentage points more than they pay in - that means that some states pay more than they get. Why would you crow about that.

Thats theft.

Funny, New York pays more money in taxes than they receive... so no, you are not paying for their unemployment....I could not find the data for Iowa, but most states get more from the government than they actually pay in, and most of those states are red states...or as I like to call them, welfare states

In that case you have something to look forward to....if you live to 140 years of age!!!!!!!!

thompsonx -> RE: Lone senator blocks unemployment benefit extensions (3/1/2010 8:51:32 PM)

I ask you this simple question
quote:

Cucky:
You rail on extensively against socialist and communist. Those words are tossed about quite freely and sometimes the meanings get blured.
Perhaps, for the sake of this discussion, you might furnish us with your definition of communist and socialist?

And you launch into a two page rant of unsubstanitated rhetoric.
If you cannot answer the question at least be ethical enough to say I do not know.
If you wish to be taken seriously then it is incumbant on you to let us know the meaning of the words you use with such vituperous intent.

willbeurdaddy -> RE: Lone senator blocks unemployment benefit extensions (3/1/2010 9:37:59 PM)

Wow, a GOP Senator standing up for a law, even though it was passed by Dems and signed by Obama. Who'd a thunk.

Interesting that you seem to be agreeing with Julia! I'd be all in favor of allowing Idaho and Iowa and Kansas and Alabama (and 26 other states) to opt out of receiving any federal funds. I'm sure New Yorkers and Californians would appreciate being able to keep more of their dollars!

I suppose the sarcasm in my post wasn't clear enough - that happens online sometimes. I'm with you on that!

Lucky pointed out in another thread that a lot of that money goes to military bases and other federal projects and facilities. And julia pointed out that there is a lot of federal land in red states that the feds seized a long time ago. Its startling how much land the feds have locked up in Idaho alone, for example. Land that can't be mined or logged, some of which an Idaho citizen can't even walk across without being shot at or arrested.

But we're supposed to feel privileged that the IRS is mugging people here in Idaho as well as in California so the feds can spend it at the Idaho National Engineering Laboratory or on the Mountain Home Air Force Base, or any of these other federal facilities.

Seized my ass, you welfare patients pay us for that land, the lost tax revenues, the improvements, the keeping pristine, and some reasonable interest, and you can do what you want with it. We are capitalists, not socialists like the other 33 states, and since as conservative capitalists, we also have alot of that reserve government land and pristine park areas containing oil and gas, we will also sell that back to you at a discount and you can drill baby drill....WE paid for it, it is ours, unless you want to make a deal....but our good conservation will not go unrewarded to you shiftless drains on society.

Welfare patients bitching about states rights need to pay their way, you are just like all those people you bitch about that bought houses they couldn't afford and want to change the deal. You all must love Stalin and Mao Tse Tung.

Back on topic... I actually support Bunning in this.  He was not blocking the appropriations, but he was blocking it without the funding to support it.  If only that could be done for ALL bills.

That said, his clownish flipping a bird to a reporter shows that he doesn't have the maturity he should have.

slvemike4u -> RE: Lone senator blocks unemployment benefit extensions (3/2/2010 8:40:59 AM)

I'd be interested to see some links backing up a certain posters bullshit assertion that citizens of Idaho have been "shot at" simply for walking across Federal land.I'm sure ,given his history of truthful and completely verifiable statements this poster should have no issue with supplying easily verifiable links to these incidents.

They need to starve the weak peasants. The peasants need to suffer more greatly.

Take a drive cross country through the sagebrush towards the main INEL compound near Arco, Idaho sometime, mikey. Don't stop for security when they come after you, and see what happens.

...ok, i can get how a bit of fiscal conservatism isn't necessarily a bad idea. However, if you're going to choose one issue to make a stand on, why this one? Why make those people in society who are at their most vulnerable pay the immediate price? Why not subsidies to industry? Why not the military budget? Why not pay raises for elected Federal officials? Why pick on the unemployed if you're not going to pick on those who have enough money for rent?
